Not gonna lie, any possible bad mishap that could happen, has happened to Momota. It is, however, unfortunate that the entire squad had to withdraw due to this.

^-^ I know what you mean.

One of my friend told me that let all players infected with virus and then we will have all tournaments back.

Look at Antonsen, now he is good

all other memebers were negative, and they will have at least 3 swabs before the tournament, so it should not be a much higher risk, than exploding Thailand :)

    (this incident) * (# of summer olympic sports [46]) = tokyo 2020+1

japan -and the world- might have to settle for tokyo 2032. obviously this sucks for bird japan since they have, for the first time, medal potential in all 5 events.

    ms 99% gold
    ws 90% silver or higher
    md 95% silver or higher
    wd 95% gold & silver
    xd 90% silver or higher

WS and XD 90% silver or higher? That's really optimistic.

    based on 'most-favorable-draw' premise.

Momota Tests Positive for COVID-19; Team Japan Withdraws
    Sunday, January 3, 2021
    TEXT BY BWF STAFF

Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) can confirm that Japan’s men’s singles world No.1 Kento Momota has tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing a mandatory PCR test at Narita Airport in Tokyo en route to Bangkok, Thailand earlier today.

Nippon Badminton Association (NBA) has subsequently withdrawn all its singles and doubles players from the YONEX Thailand Open (12-17 January 2021) and TOYOTA Thailand Open (19-24 January 2021).

The entire Japanese team was due to fly out to Bangkok, Thailand for the badminton tournaments on the evening of 3 January. Momota had gathered with the rest of the national squad a day earlier at the National Training Centre at Kita, Tokyo on 2 January.

BWF and BAT will invite replacement players and pairs for both tournaments from the list of reserves already scheduled to arrive into the ‘Asian Leg Bubble’ in Bangkok on or before 4 January and with a Certificate of Entry into Thailand.

Both the YONEX Thailand Open and TOYOTA Thailand Open plus the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020 will proceed as planned.

    ____

    - The reserved players will fill 17 blank spots (4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 2) as JPN squad pulled out yesterday.

Since they have all been in contact with each other, you need 28 days to be pretty sure of that. 14 days, plus another 14 days for potential transmission down the chain. That’s why it takes so long for COVID infection numbers to decrease in the population. Remember, swabbing doesn’t prevent infection if you have been exposed.

Why WCH tested positive? Is he in contact with other Malaysian players ? By right if they are in contact, they should be in isolation and at least its a close contact like training together with him. Should be isolated for a week at least.

From Japan news, I've heard that men's team and women's team was in different bus. So, it's unfair to women's team.

Japan can send women's team to Thai instead of inhibiting the whole team not go abroad

But his team will continue to go, assuming they test negative.

With the JAP team, even when the rest of the team tested negative, I suppose they don't want to risk the slight chance of someone turning positive a week or two later especially in a distant country and also being close to JAP OG...

    How about Marcus ?

Although I really really want tournaments back, but this situation is quite serious. I don't think Kevin is the last person who was positive.
