That's indeed a controversial decision. In Germay all the leagues classifications were frozen and the results taken as such. Most leagues only had one match day to go when everything was called off, so imo that was the correct decision. To nullify the results and efforts of a whole season because of one or even two cancelled matches? Come on.

Some clubs, some fighting for not going down one league, still had some matches to play against weaker clubs and would have surely score safe points while some other clubs in the same league already played the weaker clubs and earned easy points. So the French badminton association considered it was not fair to freeze and take into account the classifications as it stands now as not every clubs played the same opponents yet.

Personally, I would have like to simply see the remaining matches to be rescheduled during summer, in order to keep it fair for everyone involved, and somehow compensate for the lack of competition there will be in France until June probably.

Again, I'd like to precise most if not all French clubs and courts close every summer for 2 months (July and August). Something I never understood. That would have been nice to compensate the current months of lockdown, probably until early May with some scheduled matches and tournaments during summer. But so far in France we're looking at no play time until May probably (officially until mid April for now) and another 2 months off during summer. That's 8 months of badminton only for this year. Again I opened the thread to discuss about badminton related issues. If we put things in perspective, as a global issue, it is unsignificant. It's just badminton. We can play again later. :) I just tell the situation in France regarding badminton. Bigger issues are at stake obviously.

Not true for all of Germany. Here, they took the results from the first match those teams had against one another and copied it to guess the results of the remaining matches.

It's controversial as well (due to the schedule and how far influences who is allowed to play in which team), but maybe the best option?

Actually, I really do like this option. Clearly not an ideal situation, but that's pretty much impossible anyways.

For anyone with enough space, a fishing rod and some fishing line, that could help a little bit to satisfy the need for hitting the shuttle. Trying it tomorrow :). So far I installed a mini gym outside, under my terrace (covered one) and I practice shadows in the garden. Yet I really miss hitting the shuttle so that could come in handy if I manage to make it works.

Here in mainland china, things are getting back to normal, but only courts on the fringes of the city are opening. Like Cheung wished to have his own court, is IS a good wish because my coach has his own. :p If you ask him publicly if he is open his answer is "not officially" but there is a worker who actually lives at the court so people can go anytime and weekend are packed. The city I live in has always been pretty safe (only 35 cases total since Jan--all long since cured) so people aren't very concerned about getting sick. Although until recently some people did play with masks on (and you still need to get your temp checked to get into the courts).

I know even big cities like Shanghai were reopening their courts, But a lot of things that were opening again (like tourist sites) are being closed again because of infected chinese people coming back. So I'm not sure if the courts will close again there soon. Of course all tournament have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. We don't have leagues for amateur players here in China, but in Xiamen we had so many awesome tournaments this time of year. So it's a bummer but understandable. People are being patient with it all.

Singapore just announced a heightened clamping down on social distancing. No badminton there for at least a month.

Every type of getting together has been banned here until june, including sports. This was announced more than a week ago. So we're gonna be at home a while longer.
Its possible work can resume sooner but they are going to assess every two weeks.

Local badminton gyms have been halted as part of the state government mandate to Shelter at Home and close all recreational and sports facilities in the United States. Not all states have this mandate, but where we are located, the extension is through May 4th.

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there!

It's a boring and sad start of the 2nd quarter here. All courts are closed, we are restricted from leaving our region, curfew has been extended, it used to be from 7 pm to 6 am, but since 2 weeks ago curfew was adjusted to start at 3 pm until 6 am. With the increasing COVID 19 cases here, some regions were also placed on a 24 hr curfew. Although we are still allowed to buy food and medicines, no other reason for living the house will be allowed. Good thing though there's quite a spacious front yard so sometimes during the weekend we get to play a bit outdoor. But if it's windy we basically just talk and stare at each other:D The partial lockdown and curfews are supposed to last until April 14 only but given the
uncertain situation here, I'm worried that there might an indefinite extension:(

In this post, I'm only going to speculate for France (and probably other countries) based on the Italian model recently announced to end the confinement, nothing I'm about to say here are facts, but only what I feel could be coming. I really want to be clear as not to spread misinformation during those digital times.

There are discussion for allowing certain areas of France or certain categories of age to end their confinement soon (soon being 10 days minimum) with some restrictions such as wearing masks, social distancing, only necessary shops opened, school still closed etc. Bars, nightclubs and... sports club could be last to be opened again. I feel that, in France, we might not step on a badminton court before September as I start to consider (again my opinion, I'm only speculating) they could even end the season now, only to re-open clubs in September. The season is supposed to end in June anyway. At the very best it won't open before early May and I wouldn't be surprised they simply don't re-open the clubs for just 2 months and take what they would consider an unnecessary risk for the public health.

The whole situation is so damn complex and with having zero reference or experience from other similar situations, it seems as if all countries are waiting for someone else to make the first move towards slightly releasing the take confinement measures. It's a bit like in when the rain has stopped and the track gets less and less wet in a Formula 1 race and now everybody is waiting for the first team to make the move to slick tires.

The good thing is that with the heavy measures taken, the numbers in most european countries seem to go in the right direction with stable or even slightly decreasing new diagnosed infections. And that while having the test capacities hugely increased in parallel (Germay is said to take 100.000 tests per day now).
To me personally, the current limitations are tolerable. Although I am in a comfortable position to be working for a company that is to this date keeping at an 'okay' level of incoming orders (although the trend is clearly going downwards) - and on top of that, the company has proven so far to be treating the whole situation fairly and with good judgement in regards to their employees. Working from home office is clearly not ideal, but it's a viable solution for a certain period of time.

What's bugging me most are the kids though. Both are missing going to kindergarten and meeting other kids noticeably more and more each day now and it gets more and more difficult for them to grasp why they haven't seen their grandparents for such a long time now. Again, we're complaining out of a comfortable situation with living in our own house and having a small backyard of our own. I can only imagine how tense the situation would be if we were still living in our previous three-room top floor appartment...

In terms of badminton and other club sports, I'm also sure that this will be one of the last things on the list to be re-opened again. Cause hands down, that is an expendable topic in the whole picture. Personally, I hope that schools and pre-schools are one of the first things that will be re-started again. First because that would take a lot of the pressure off many, many critical family situations, and second, because it will be an important premise for a lot of other things to get back to normal - like going to work. All we can do is hope that the specialists and politicians in charge will make the right decisions with regards to controlling the desease and yet still giving back more freedom to the people. And looking at the F1 wet-race analogy - I hope that they also have that bit of luck that is needed.

my wife asked me today, "do we have a net"

yes we do. from when i was in school and we have to bring our own net to tie between volleyball standards. that was more than 20 yrs ago.

unfortunately it is usually quite windy and it will be close to impossible to play outside.

It is great to see many countries (other than... USA) infection rate is coming down. However, the number of ppl positive tests per day is still staggering. I hope it will come down fast soon. As even a constant infection rate means exponential growth.

I am starting to learn of friends who has caught it, and friends of friends who has passed away. :(:(:(

UK figures can be tricky to interpret, not only is there a lag in reporting deaths but due to the lack of testing it looks like the death rate is higher than it really is.

I can't help but being impressed about how much this virus is showing the people living in modern democracies how much it can be an actual matter of life and death to whom you are giving your vote in an election. People all around the world are more or less painfully learning that it is those people whose actions and decisions make the big difference in the end and it is those people who are deciding about each of us when the sh*t really hits the fan.

Looking at what's happening in the US these past couple of weeks is... disturbing to say the least. I have a sister in-law living with her family in Michigan and they are nothing but scared - or maybe terrified is the better term. Btw, some schools in Michigan (not sure if it's the whole state) have decided that regular classes will be suspended until the end of the schooling year already.
