the perfectly logical explanation is after watching the scary 'end of the world' news all day people can't stop shtting themselves.
Things getting complicated with so many suspended tournaments, will the ranking point be expired normally? And will Race of Tokyo deadline still going to 26th April? Tokyo 2020 is still loomed by uncertainty despite IOC insists that it will go ahead as planned but I have bad feeling that Summer OG will be postponed.
It is most likely will... they will just use the race for the Olympics as and when so there will be no more race to tokyo , imo. Whats Final is Final .. cant repeat it.. Prefer Tokyo OG to be held in 2022
With so many tournaments canceled, the OG QF deadline doesn't make sense anymore, grossly unfair for those who still have a fighting chance of getting into the Top 32 standings in the Race to Tokyo (37+1 from host nation for MS/WS and 16 for each doubles category). I mean, the whole scheme has been derailed by the totally unexpected Covid-19 pandemic, BWF and IOC have to seriously and responsibly come out with remedial actions to address the pressing issue in a fair and just manner. I wonder if they have any Plan B or viable option(s), if not they had better act fast as the situation has become urgent. Intuitively, I feel there's a high likelihood of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics being canceled or postponed to next year. It will certainly be a logistical nightmare for the Tokyo OG to go ahead as planned this year just when the Covid-19 pandemic is getting worse worldwide (even though China itself may be able to contain it in a couple of months' time).
it's either happening or getting canceled. postponing seems too difficult in rescheduling the whole world. oy, what 'A Series of Unfortunate Events...'
Health is more important than Olympics. If Japan is epicenter , I dont believe JPN only has less than 1000 cases , their number is just too consistent. Its more likely 10x that across the world for no of cases. And so if JPN is epicenter, and they continue to hold the Olympics. I will consider skipping it. some players skipped Birmingham. Now Tokyo is much more dangerous than Birmingham.
By some players you mean Indian players. No other players skipped AE if they could help it. Momota only due to his injury.
The latest update of BWF WR (17/03/2020) has answered the above question, expiration date is going normal => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/ranking.aspx?rid=70
It wasn't so dangerous two weeks ago when they made the decision to go ahead. It's dangerous in UK now. But then again, nobody would have thought UK chief officers and government would have decided to let the virus rip through the country. One of my doctor friends in London has a ward full of suspected Covid 19 cases. Universities are shutting down. A wave of students return from UK to HK this week. Yesterday, 20 arrivals from all destinations at the HK airport had symptoms.
here's a good read about postponement vs. playing. never mind the video... https://www.si.com/olympics/2020/03/16/olympics-tokyo-2020-coronavirus-postponement-likely
Yeah. With each day, the chances of Tokyo 2020 grow slimmer and slimmer. There are too many countries not handling it well. Every athlete, their coach and country want to peak at the right time and do their best, physically and psychologically.
SUI Open 2019 point has expired and next in line are IND Open, MAS Open, SGP Open 2019 which will affect some players WR who scored good result in 2019 on these suspended tournaments.
The UEFA euro 2020 (football) has been postponed to 2021. The fact it was meant to be held in 12 different European cities did not favour maintaining the date. It is, I believe, the first major sport event being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
