Yeah they were definitely better in the past, and with the crop of tall and powerful players even getting a bronze will be difficult. But personally I can understand those errors. The way they play requires them to play way better quality shots than their opponents, and they’re always on the run so it’s really difficult to be positioned well to do so on a consistent basis. Take that with the opponents figuring how to deal with their style of play, the errors we see are the cumulation of the pressure their opponents put on them and their anxiety of being unable to end points in their favor.

    My predictions:

    MS: Axelsen
    MD: Yuta/Endo
    WS: Chen Yufei
    WD: Hirota/Fukushima
    XD: Praveen/Melati

Happy to be wrong for MD and WS, but I don’t see it happening. Marcus made some improvements taking chances at the net area, but don’t think it’s gonna be enough. And frankly this improvement is good, but does not solve the root problem. The problem I see is Marcus not having enough stamina to smash more than 2-3 times properly. There are times where after a few smashes there is a lift that is slightly short but he runs out of energy to continue pressuring and the rally goes back to square one. He used to have that in 2017, but with his size nowadays... not optimistic that’s going to be changed. Whatever improvements they made though... it will be the ultimate test against Yuta/Endo.

TTY makes way too many errors at crunch moments, elegant style but mentally not as stable as CYF, that’ll be the deciding factor.

You can install a VPN. Set it to Netherlands and watch entire match on BWF website. On smartphone, I recommend ProtonVPN. Works like a charm

sad to see this. maybe they thought they have no chance of getting the ticket, after seeing BWF cancel all the tournaments till end of April.
i still see them as a better pair than MM/WN.

I had the notion that if TakaMatsu went as far as to win the All England they will have enough to make it to Tokyo2020 - even without the remaining tournaments. Can someone confirm that they are truly out of the race now?
