But these guys do not have much to show for, compared to the relatively illustrious career of V Shem and WK. Finding sponsors and stuff will be hard. They're not like former #1s or anything.

I would have said continue until nearly no chance of qualifying which would be known in two months or so, right?

yes, you could do that. but, impo they wouldn't make it. only 16 pairs qualify and bam must not think it's worth the money to back them either.

Whether they qualify for the Olympics is beyond the point. They are still a quality pair and should be kept to be groom to excel in view of their relative young age. With their quality and playing level, they are excellent sparring players With Aaron & SWY & other junior players. What BAM is doing does not make sense. They should be trimming unnecessary committee members, unnecessary VIP expenses and focus on providing quality coaches, talent spotting and continuous grooming and a proper framework on players retention and future possibility to be groom for management level upon retirement as player. This inhospitable condition in BAM has led to brain drain of our local coaches such as Jeremy Gan & Tan Kim Her.

Good to see them go independent so fast with Li Ning sponsorship. They really silence BAM immediately after being axed from national team with their good showing at the Malaysia masters reaching the quarter finals.
They are really on fire last night. Never see Teo EY shout so loudly after winning every point.
Hope to see them perform better in future to outshine the BAM pairs.
Currently msia independent players ranking is higher than BAM players in XD and MD.

Sure... but all the professionals were groomed and trained since they were teenagers by BAM. No matter what their achievements, they owe BAM a lot. Like the Malay saying...jangan kacang lupakan kulit.
To be fair all of the professionals have been very grateful to BAM in their language post BAM. So all is good. Hopefully they do well

since being dropped from national team, Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi now as independent players along with Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong. Currently they performed quite well this year, reaching QF in Malaysia Master and Indonesia Master recently. All these efforts should thanks to their current coach Chew Choon Eng, and temporary coach Tan Boon Heong. Let’s see whether they can go even further for better achievement without national team involvements...

Mas pair played well. I liked ong's coolness, like the game slowing down for him (teo too).......wish them the best ahead.

They are no longer young. (27 and 25) they were languishing in BAM. The expulsion was a wake up call. No denying that they are good. Being kicked out is the best thing that could happen to them. Move on.

I know you said this before the Malaysia Masters but if they have another 3 weeks like they just had, they will be equal with Chia/Soh. It is not unthinkable.

i gather you mean 3 more relevant tournaments ... so how do you figure they will be equal after 3 more relevant tournaments?

ong/teo are 6,840 points behind chia/soh. this means ong/teo need to improve their own best results from here thru week 20 by 6,840 points relative to 2019 week 6 thru week 20 results. their top 2019 pts in this time period was 15,620 (from 4 tournaments), add the 6,840 extra = 22,460 points needed to tie chia/soh with zero improvement. that's a lot of points to score especially if chia/soh merely play equal to last year.

3 of the upcoming are wt 300's. there's not a lot to gain from those. about 1,000 points for every round you advance.

also, chia/soh will be seeded in upcoming tournaments which means easier 1st & 2nd round matches. ong/teo are not and could run into a top 4 pair in the 1st and/or 2nd rounds.

in short ong/teo need to improve a lot and chia/soh need to regress a lot.

yes, not unthinkable... but, not likely.
