A kick off tournament for 2020 season, an important year as Summer Olympic Games is looming. Star-studded event to showcase high intense competition in six days ahead after three weeks break, giving all top players charging energy and refresh their mind to eye another new target.

    MEN'S SINGLES
    • The much awaited clash of Momota-Ginting is expected on quarterfinal stage, the Japanese had shocking exit last year when he's eliminated by compatriot Kenta Nishimoto at first round.
    • Defending champion Son Wan Ho has very uphill task to extend his crown here, will take on the Olympic Champion Chen Long, 2019 edition beaten finalist.
    • Home number one Lee Zii Jia will meet formidable challenger Danish vast improved player, Anders Antonsen who scored stellar performance in 2019 with big highlight being World Championship silver medalist.
    • China and India have big number of representatives in this category, some of promising talents crawl at qualifying round, Koki Watanabe, Lakshya Sen, Sun Feixiang.

    WOMEN'S SINGLES
    • Another heavyweight opponent for the comeback Spanish sensation Carolina Marin in BWF top tier event, this time she will be tested by Akane Yamaguchi on very early stage.
    • Newly world number one Chen Yufei produced stunning feat in late 2019, bagging three titles in a row including World Tour Finals, high expectation on Chen to do well and has great start in this beginning of 2020.
    • On top-half draw, familiar contenders Tai Tzu Ying, World Champion Pusarla Sindhu, former champion Nozomi Okuhara are favoured to fill last eight berth.

    DOUBLES CATEGORIES
    • Unfavourable draw for home men's doubles pairs where indenpendent combination Goh VS/Tan WK will take on the rising stars, SEAG champions Aaron Chia/Soh WY in opening round. The veterans are questioning about BWF drawing procedure, same matters that had resounded earlier by Denmark players.
    • Three Japanese top-ranked pairs had withdrawn from this tournament, Endo/Watanabe, Matsumoto/Nagahara and Watanabe/Higashino.
    • World number one Chen/Jia regain confidence and momentum lately, it seems new recruited coach Kang Kyung Jin succeeds to turn China women's doubles poor form into the top once again.
    • Nothing much different for mixed doubles landscape, Zheng/Huang have possible semifinal meeting with tricky rivals, Jordan/Oktavianti who expelled them in back to back Europe tour last year and stretched the Chinese into the limit in Guangzhou Finals.

Cant wait for FajarRian vs BoeCon & AhsanHendra vs OuZhang ( think this was the best MD match of last year the last they met, was watching it in hotel room with crazy mental..)

and Boe always amaze me with his age. Boe and Hendra turns back the time.

Free entry and free drinks today at Axiata Arena. Fantastic.

The highlight of today was the entire stadium laughing at Zhang Nan when he sent a shocker of a serve at 22-21, game 2 against The Daddies. He took it lightly and grinned sheepishly.

    Play hard. Train harder.

I think it's only in WD and MD where there is a chance for a repeat champion this year. I hope Chen Long reaches the finals, would be happy if he plays the way he ended 2019 all through 2020 too.

Not happy that Yuta/Arisa had a withdrawal, for some reason I really enjoy watching them.

And BAM live streaming was one of the best happy surprises of the day for me. Even if I found that out just now.
