Well, you gotta ask her for sure. Being an independent player like her is difficult. She has to consider about the cost as well.
Kim Ga Eun has been out of the picture since she lost in Hong Kong. She can't catch Michelle Li even if she wins the title in Gwangju. Sung Ji Hyun can catch Li by winning Gwangju but that point will likely be moot since Busanan can clinch by merely showing up for a match in Gwangju. If Zhang Beiwen wins Hong Kong, Busanan will need at least one win in Gwangju. As minions pointed out, Gwangju is the last tournament. Syed Modi will actually count toward the 2020 WTF qualification.
Thanks for your explanation. Weird that a tournament before guangzhou is not counted towards it. Still cannot understand why li skipped that Korean tournament. Guess it means Zhang beiwan will fight really hard to win cyf. And also the final. I dunno. I think for zbw she must have thought she has no chance of making it until she did unbelievably well in this tournament
you're right, it's only 7,000 pts for the win. i thought it was 9,000. here's the pt. distribution for korea, wt300: winner - 7000 runner up - 5950 semi-loser - 4900 (3/4) friday loser - 3850 (5/8) thurs loser - 2750 (9/16) weds loser - 1670 (17/32) lose in qualifying - 660 Michelle LI 74,820 Busanan 71,440 beiwen zhang 69,860 SUNG Ji Hyun 68,670 points from current hk open wt500: busanan lost friday to pick up 5,040 for 76,480. sung ji hyun lost wednesday to pick up 2,220 for 70,890.
Only one slot left for contention. Just receive the info that LZJ won't play in Korea Masters. That leaves 5 players to fight for the last spot. However, only 4 players that are effectively in the contention. Should WTW plays in Korea Masters, KT will be eliminated from the race. Here is the condition for the 4 players to qualify to the WTF. Wang Tzu Wei Points : 72490 Scenarios to qualify : Reaches at least SF (72490 + 4900 = 77390) Reaches QF (72490 + 3850 = 76340) and NKLA doesn't win the title Reaches R2 (72490 + 2750 = 75240), NKLA doesn't reach Final and LD doesn't win the title Loses in R1 (72490 + 1670 = 74160), NKLA doesn't reach SF and LD doesn't reach Final LD in SF will have the same points as WTW in R1, but WTW will qualify because he plays in more tournaments than LD Ng Ka Long Angus Points : 69400 Scenarios to qualify : Become the winner (69400 + 7000 = 76400) and WTW doesn't reach SF Become the RU (69400 + 5950 = 75350), WTW doesn't reach QF and LD doesn't win the title Reaches SF (69400 + 4900 = 74300), WTW doesn't reach R2, LD doesn't reach Final and KW doesn't win the title Reaches QF (69400 + 3850 = 73250), WTW doesn't play, LD doesn't reach SF and KW doesn't reach Final Lin Dan Points : 69260 Scenarios to qualify : Become the winner (69260 + 7000 = 76260) and WTW doesn't reach QF Become the RU (69260 + 5950 = 75210), WTW doesn't reach R2 and NKLA doesn't win the title Reaches SF (69260 + 4900 = 74160), WTW doesn't play, NKLA doesn't reach SF and KW doesn't win the title Reaches QF (69260 + 3850 = 73110), WTW doesn't play, NKLA doesn't reach QF and KW doesn't reach Final Kantaphon Wangcharoen Points : 67330 Scenarios to qualify : Become the winner (67330 + 7000 = 74330), WTW loses in R1, both NKLA and LD don't reach Final Become the RU (67330 + 5950 = 73280), WTW doesn't play, both NKLA and LD don't reach SF
Based on the post by Michelle Li's coach on Weibo (Kan Chao Yu) They did not know that WTF would be counted until Korean Master, because based on the ranking date listed on the website, they thought only counted until Fuzhou Open. He also complained that BWF had secretly changed the date without being publicly announced, but instead sent a letter to each country's badminton committee, where they did not receive information about this Poor Michelle Li
There are 3 players left to fight for the last spot. Only BO and SJH will participate in Korea Masters. The race in this category is pretty much over since BO can just play there and both ML and SJH got eliminated as a result.
A little off topic, but where can I find a list of withdrawn players for each tournament?Or rather is it published somewhere after each manager meeting before the tournament? Or is the only chance for us to check the original draw against the updated draw on Mondays after the meeting?
Thats the reason why the WTF should just count the top 15 tournaments. Had that been counted, Michelle Li will definitely have qualified. our use the 15 tournaments / you can change 3SS with 3 best GPG results ( if its better). That is fair enough.
Three pairs will fight for the last two spots. Here is the conditions for the three pairs. Lu/Yao Points : 83380 Scenarios to qualify : Reach at least R2 (83380 + 2750 = 86130) Loses in R1 (83380 + 1670 = 85050), either Goh/Tan don't win the title or Chia/Soh don't reach QF Chia/Soh Points : 81980 Scenarios to qualify : Reach at least QF (81980 + 3850 = 85830) Reach R2 (81980 + 2750 = 84730), either Goh/Tan don't win the title or Lu/Yao don't participate Lose in R1 (81980 + 1670 = 83650), either Goh/Tan don't reach Final or Lu/Yao don't participate Goh/Tan Points : 78490 Scenarios to qualify : Become the winner (78490 + 7000 = 85490), either Lu/Yao don't reach R2 or Chia/Soh don't reach QF Become the RU (78490 + 5950 = 84440), either Lu/Yao don't participate or Chia/Soh don't reach R2 Reach SF (78490 + 4900 = 83390), either Lu/Yao or Chia/Soh don't participate Reach QF (78490 + 3850 = 82340) and Chia/Soh don't participate
The race in this category is over. The top 9 in this table is also the top 9 from the World Ranking. Among them, only TakaMatsu fail to qualify because their two compatriot pairs have higher points than them.
Feel bad for Michelle if she will be eliminated like this. She can put up a good fight against other player. She even can defeat RI, NO and HBJ. I doubt that BO can win a single set against other players at WTF. This also reminds me of a Taiwanese WD (Hsu YC/Wu TY iirc) years ago at Dubai SSF. They lost constantly at R1 and still could qualified. I was like wtf... However, this year it's not that bad ...
The race in this category is over. Among the pairs who qualify to WTF, only Hafiz/Gloria that are outside the top 8 in World Ranking, being the 9th. The WR8, Goh/Lai, fail to qualify to WTF.
Yeah, ML will have give the top players much challenge than BO. No offense to BO, but she doesn't even reach SF in nearly every tournaments she has participated this year. The only time she actually got past SF was when she reached Final in Thailand Masters at the beginning of the year. I hope that the WD pairs who have confirmed their spots can play in WTF. Jongkolphan/Rawinda have withdrawn from both FCO and HKO. Hope they can be healthy by the time of WTF. If they withdraw, the TPE pair, Hsu/Hu, will be the one to replace them. If that's the case, it will be a repeat of 2017 SSF. Lol.
Thanks for reminding me about the WD scenario. I heard that Rawinda is the one that got injured. Hope she could recover in time for the WTF. I don't wanna be on the rampage again ... Putitta/Sasipree or even Stoeva sisters are much more deserved than that TPE pairs
Feels pretty weird when almost all the top players were playing in both hk and Korea while she did not.
Wow, ridiculous. That's a huge failure by BWF and Badminton Canada to not properly communicate the change to players.
Considering that there is no end to these type of blunders, players and their national associations should know better than to take any chances. Does entering a player's name for a tournament cost the national badminton association any money? What about removing a name?
I think another reason for Michelle's case is that she's an independent player (cmiiw), together with Beiwen Zhang, thus travelling expenses need to be considered.
