Iirc, this is the fourth consecutive R1 loss for AY (one of them is actually a retired match). It struck to me how fate can change really fast.

i dont know if he could have a glory retire match in the future. He could say good bye at final of wc 2017, all england 2018 or malaysia 2019 instead of continue doing the damage to his career. Let's pretend he did retire in one of those matchs. So its easier for me to say some farewell words. Good bye lin dan. Every racket you own, every shuttle you hit, they were worthy to be made. Every ass you tap (by racket) should feel honour. Thank you for the beauty you give for this sport. Thank you for the legend lcw you contributed. A lot of badminton fans will retire with you. You will be miss, badminton.

or he could have retired in MalaysiaOpen 2017 when he played his last Final against LCW.. It was meant to be for me at least, to watch them live in their last head to head Final meetings.

AY lost, but did she played badly? from the scores, i'd think that she is recovering and working her way back to form. well, hope i'm right. anyway i don't foresee any problem in her qualifying for Tokyo. so slowly working herself back to match fitness and then top form is her priority and she has enough time to do that.

some fans in china oso wish LD retire now instead of losing badly to players whom he will have beaten comfortably in his peak. well, LD need not have to win matches or titles now to prove his greatness. he said he want to continue till his son is old enough to watch him play (aka LCW). so let's just watch his matches and enjoy the good shots/rallies whenever he produced them.

    • It is so frustrating to see that Akane is still struggling physically. One has to wonder whether it makes sense for her to travel to all this tournaments, train there, and play matches instead of having a complete recovery break. This is probably for the rankings points but still.
    • Overall a pretty worrying showing for Japan with Takamatsu, AY, and Watahiga exiting in the first round
    • He BJ loss is a bit surprising as well as although SJH did show sign of improvements this year
    • So incredibly weird to see TTY as seed n°4 xD it's always been one or two really it feels

The Japanese team apparently arrived late (the day before the tournament started) because of the typhoon in Japan. Jetlag and some stressful last few days probably haven't helped them in their preparations. There were several upsets with Japanese losses today.

I think she played better and better, she is recovering. I am happy to see Akane moving well after a long long time

Many Japanese players lost in 1st round, which won even after fighting 3 games. Maybe because it was still jetlag because they just arrived in Denmark yesterday afternoon.
