Odense, a birthplace of prominent Danish author H.C. Andersen once again will stage BWF premier tournament, nearly a week-long competition which presenting formidable cast in all five categories.

    UNBEATEN STREAK
Two-time World Champion Kento Momota will be strongest contender to defend his title in fairytale land, winning 21 consecutive matches since Japan Open 2019 is absolutely remarkable feat to reinforce his world number one status. Two Indonesian protagonists standing on the mighty Japanese trajectory, Asian Games champion Jonatan Christie in last eight and highly likely nemesis Anthony Ginting in final four following Shi Yu Qi pulled out as the Chinese needs more recovery time post ankle surgery. Two home stars Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen are scheduled to meet each other in quarters, another favorite names of bottom half draw to seek final spot are revitalizing Chou Tien Chen and the Olympic Champion Chen Long.

    TOP-HALF FIERCE TUSSLE
A group of first echelon ladies populate the heavyweight upper half draw, two Japanese starlets Yamaguchi-Okuhara, reigning World Champion Pusarla Sindhu, the returning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin, the reviving He Bingjiao will offering high intense match since the beginning. Marin will take on tricky test Thai latest prospect Pornpawee Chohuwong before set up a possible meeting with top-seed Yamaguchi. Defending champion who’s getting slowdown in 2019, Tai Tzu Ying also finds complicated opening task to clear first, Nitchaon Jindapol. Familiar top eight faces, Chen Yufei, Saina Nehwal and Ratchanok Intanon join bottom half seeding position.

    INDONESIA ASCENDANT
The Minions and Daddies, two pairs from different generation will be backbone for men’s doubles juggernaut Indonesia to continue supremacy in BWF top flight events, another pair to watch are the rejuvenated young duo who comeback from sluggish form, Alfian/Ardianto. An interesting first round showdown will pit Japan number one Kamura/Sonoda versus Korean rapid fire Choi SG/Seo SJ. Three-time World Champions Ahsan/Setiawan will be tested by Malaysian combinations in preliminary rounds, Goh/Tan and followed by either Aaron Chia/Soh WY or Ong YS/Teo EY in last sixteen.

    NOTHING BUT THREE
Women’s doubles title contention will not be deviated from Japan, China and Korea as world’s top-three Matsumoto/Nagahara, Fukushima/Hirota, Matsumoto/Takahashi often get serious threat from vigorous opponents, most notably Chen QC/Jia YF and Kim SY/Kong HY who derailing Japanese counterparts in some tournaments lately including the last two BWF tour in Changzhou and Incheon respectively.

    THAI MIXED DOUBLES GAFFE
Raising the eyebrow when looking mixed doubles draw, Dechapol Puavaranukroh is paired up with Puttita Supajirakul instead of regular partner Sapsiree Taerattanachai, it’s purely administration error by Badminton Association of Thailand staff that causing fatal impact as all players gear up in the ongoing Race of Tokyo 2020. Unfortunately, the “accidentally” scratch pair must face overwhelming favorite Zheng/Huang in first round. Second seed Wang/Huang have challenging early round draw who meet Rankireddy/Ponnappa and possibly Indonesians Faizal/Widjaja next.

In case of anyone still doesn't know about the news, Sapsiree will not play in XD due to administration mistake from BAT. Dechapol will instead paired up with Puttita. As if the situation isn't worse enough, they will pit against the mighty Zheng/Huang. Very tough task for the accident THA pair. However, some accidents can turn into fortune as well. If they can beat Zheng/Huang, it will be total surprise and blessing in disguise.

Without SYQ I dont think anyone can stop Momota and saddest thing for a fan is to see their player injured...Till date SYQ has the best Result againsy KM in straight sets at WTF 2018 and since then we havent seen any MS giving such fight to KM.

Praying for you Shi..Plz come back soon but recover first and be in a good health thats my primary concern and wish...winnin and losing is a part of game what matters is your healthy life !

Honestly...how could no one notice that Thailand were fielding a scratch pair with literally NO ranking to speak of. The seedings for this tournament have been out for weeks...wouldn't the Thai coaches be checking to see which draws their players were in and notice that their star XD pair was nowhere to be found?! Unbelievable stuff...and even more unbelievable that this couldn't be corrected.

Not saying he will win again but with a scratch pairing, it's gonna be such a waste for Puavaranukroh as they usually make it to semi finals consistently in recent times.

Unfortunate for Sapsiree . She has to sit out of the court for this tournament. Does she play doubles?

Who knows what happen to them. This is purely their mistake. They need to make sure that all of the entries are right. By the time the M&Q is released, it is too late to change anything.

The mistake for Dechapol/Sapsiree’s wrong entry was actually from their club, SCG Badminton Academy. They only have 3 players competing internationally, including Putita but still managed to do this so that’s really disappointing. Not to mention they’re one of the biggest badminton clubs in Thailand along with Ratchanok’s club at Banthongyord. They arrange everything themselves separately from BAT, so things can go pretty wrong sometimes even if BAT is the main association.

Satwik has been poor and Chirag has stepped up his game against KGJ/LYD. First game to the Indian pair 24-22.

Wow..the Koreans are severely under-prepared. Lot of unforced errors.

    Play hard. Train harder.

Both CXX and ASY are rally type players. They keep on going, neither of them wanted to finish it asap.
