I have heard about the news. Around 10000 employees will be layoff. Some other companies are also experiencing this.

I don't know the financial state of HSBC. Hope it doesn't impact BWF as a whole.

If there were any effect it should be on the World Tour Tournaments, not on BWF.

Maybe it's time for Djarum to step in:p:p:p:p

This is probably why they sponsor badminton and not something expensive like the Football World Cup, F1 or any Tennis tournament.

Badminton should be good value for money.

HSBC Asia is profitable according to the report. Badminton is a strong game in Asia and therefore good exposure.

I went to a bank in UK. I tell you, it was so slow there. You have to reserve half a day to deal with a simple counter transaction.

That sounds at least somewhat reassuring. On the other hand, that article made me realize how dependent on this one sponsor out sport truly is. Imagine they stop their involvement and Yonex encounters a crisis as well. Professional badminton would take a massive hit.

I would think that the funds have already been earmarked for the three years. Maybe perhaps an initial lump sum and then staged payments.

What would be more of a consideration is for the next cycle after. How long is this sponsorship cycle? Three years?

    Hi all,

I am pretty sure this will not affect badminton. I am also pretty sure that they are aware of badminton and how big it is in Asia. Since I live in Asia, you can see that HSBC holds events in badminton such as the HSBC insurance events in Hong Kong where they bring famous players to play inside a shopping center. At the same time, I think badminton is becoming bigger as the promo videos for HSBC have all started to include badminton!

Luckily the USA is a small player in world badminton. Look what’s happening to the NBA and their relationship with China at the moment!

Can badminton benefit from basketball’s woes?
