Here is the statistics about minions' duration match throughout this year. < 30 mins => 17 matches 30-39 mins => 9 matches (lost 1) 40-59 mins => 14 matches (lost 2) >= 60 mins => 4 matches (lost 3) See, minions' matches typically end faster. There shouldn't be any dispute about how minions' match end so quickly.
That's a good one. So a possible way to beat the Minions is to drag them over 60mins. But for that, the players need slow hall. There is no way the Minions will allow the match to go over 1hr in fast halls. Play hard. Train harder.
What do you think the reason why minions prone to lost in long match? Stamina (seems unlikely) or just they easily frustrated thus became error prone? Also, forgive me if me being ignorant, how you can train to anticipate slow hall condition if your main domain is generally fast hall?
This is my personal opinion - I would say it's more of a mindset rather than skillset. In slow halls, they need to be prepared mentally and physically for longer rallies. It is easy to get frustrated when you lose a point after working so hard for, say 40-50 rallies. But it is very important to keep a calm and composed mindset. The key word the players and coaches use when the Minions lose a match is 'rush'. They try to finish the point in a rush thus resulting in losing the point. The rush game can win points in fast halls but in slow halls they need to be patient and composed. I don't think they need to look too far for answers. They just need to look at their senior pros Ashan and Setiawan. If you see the NZ open final (I believe that was a slow hall) against Endo/Watanabe, they were made to work really hard but they didn't lose their temperament at any time. So imo, it's more of a mental aspect than technical as far as Minions are concerned in slow halls. Get prepared to work hard and don't rush and don't get frustrated. Play hard. Train harder.
The only time they lost less than 30 mins is against HeTan at MO last year , i guess? But that is pretty good 2 losses in between 40-59 mins. Do you know which matches this year end in more than 60 minutes?
Against Seo/Choi twice (1W 1L), Endo/Watanabe (L), Zhang/Liu at AllEngland (L) It's not just about slow hall, they won AE back to back prior this year. They are struggling against a strong defensive pairs I guess.
Yeah, i dont think its just about slow halls. They have reached F or W almost all the tournaments. If i have to say slow, i think the Wuhan arena is the slowest. Even the JapanOpen stadium is not that slow. If they struggle against defensive pairs, then i will agree. There are very few pairs that go into match have a mindset of defending. I think only EndoWata & ChoiSeo who is truly defensive and Can defend well. Then again Minions its match point down against ChoiSeo , yet they are in the Final and have a chance of winning it. Revenge only feels good if it ends up winning the title.
Slow halls neutralize Marcus attacks much more and makes him much more vulnerable in attacks and defense too eventually. A lot easier for the opponents to put him under pressure especially in later stages due to less stamina.
Congrats minions, for the 5th titles!! Surprisingly, the injured ahsan played better than Gideon today
Glad they won it today, after the first game I thought they were going to lose too. Should have played like they did in G3 (pumping themselves up). Not surprised with injured Ahsan playing better than Marcus though.
Minions and TTY used to won together when both of them reach Final. They also lost together when both of them reach Final (France Open 2018). But, today, this is not the case. Minions is the winner while TTY is the runner up. I guess minions and TTY have officially part ways.
Minions didn't seem too happy as they usually would posing for pictures. Marcus : "It's very heavy" Heavier than Jr.?

gideon overthought their tactics to play Ahsan in G1, the same mistake like Li junhui did yesterday. Once again kevin showed the better mental game. he almost lost his patience with gideon's errors tho
To be fair I also think kevin made a lot of mistakes in the second game, more than gideon I would say, but glad he came alive in the deciding game.
