The latest news about him : http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2019-10-30/doc-iicezzrr5995970.shtml Maybe @Justin L would translate that above article Lin Guipu won National Individual Badminton Championships 2019 in Zhengzhou last week, representing Zhejiang Province defeated Tian Houwei from Fujian, 21-15 / 21-18. The article said it's still questionable that Lin GP will return to China national team.
CLELY, thanks a lot for the info. My brief translation as follows, only the relevant paragraphs:- In the MS Final, the young Lin Guipu relied on stamina advantage beat Tian Houwei in 51 mins by the score of 21-15, 21-18. The reason why Lin Guipu had better stamina in the final was mainly because he won his semifinal match quickly in two sets while Tian Houwei had a long, grueling match with Hubei's Tan Zhendong that lasted 98 minutes before prevailing in the marathon close-fought contest. At the very moment he captured the championship, Lin Guipu was completely liberated. He said the championship did not come easy at all, and it meant so much to him. At the beginning of 2016, Lin Guipu (barely 19 years old then) seized the Lingsui International Challenge men's singles title, followed by a third-place finish at the China Masters in April of the same year and was developing well just as he entered the senior circuit tournaments. However, he later sustained injuries five times in succession, a bitter experience, at its worst, he could hardly walk, "not even a normal person", to use his own words. At that time, he couldn't help but leave the national team and returned to Zhejiang provincial team for rehabilitation. After going through nearly three years of therapy and recovery, he finally returned to competition in September of 2018 at the NationalTeam Championships, At that time after a long absence from tournament, he practically lost what he was once praised for the attacking ability and mobility of his youthful days. This time, after a year's hard work, he emerged at the National Individual Badminton Championships displaying a completely different form from last year, regaining more than half his atatcking ability, the extremely threatening Li Guipu is back. Having experienced almost four years of title drought, this big national title has given Lin Guipu a huge encouragement. He candidly said, during these four years of injury and being kept away from the badminton court, he was thankful that he didn't give up and didn't let injury defeat him. Formerly, Lin Guipu and Shi Yuqi were dubbed "Promising Twin Star", later he was forced to drop out prematurely. Now, Shi Yuqi is also enduring injury, on this, Lin Guipu is empathetic. He said:' I've been through it, can fully understand that feeling, especially when it happended at one's peak, it's worse. I wish for Shi Yuqi to recuperate as quickly as possible, Chinese men's singles need him." Online, many have expressed concerns for Lin Guipu's injury and state of recovery , also many are paying close attention to his chances of returning to the national team. In that regard, Lin Guipu answered to let nature take its course. Objectively speaking, he had suffered injuries, his physical condition and ability have indeed not really returned to his pre-injury period; subjectively, he can take it as motivation and put great effort towards recovery and training.
I think most of us will like to see him come back and give a decent stab at fulfilling his potential. It’s never nice to see a promising athlete’s career curtailed by injuries. To be honest, I don’t think (Chinese) history is in favor of a comeback. There has been many Chinese injuries over the year and pretty much most of them have their career abruptly shorten. The most similar example to his case is Wang Xin. She was injured during her junior career and only made a comeback when she’s around 22-23. Well of course, we know what happened next for her. Anyway I wish him the best of luck.
If Lin GP didn't suffered heavy injury possibly China MS wouldn't had tough time and experiencing battered circumstances, just cruel fate that hampered his potential to soaring at senior years. We'll wait and see next chapter of his development whether he could make comeback to national team.
The other one with hugely wasted potential is Song Xue. He would only have been 25 if he kept on going. I think he got injured when he was on a cusp of a breakthrough, having beaten Axelsen and leading Momota before getting that injury. The abundance of upstarts in China make any comebacks difficult. What happen to Gao Fangjie? Retired?
Yeah, Xue Song, what a shame, wasted talent due to career-ending injury, apparently. At age 25 now, a successful comeback is next to impossible, I'm afraid. I'm also waiting for Gao Fangjie, age 21, born 29 Sep 1998, to return. Just checked that her ranking has fallen to 114 as of today, since her name is still listed on BWF world ranking, that means she's not retired.
His name is in the Indian super league auction. If he’s in the national team, then he wouldn’t have been allowed to participate.
So the rumour that circulated on social media-weibo isn't true, maybe it's only hope by CHN netizen/badminton fans.
Lin Guipu was part of the auction and had a decent base price but he went unsold, I guess due to lack of exposure.
According to this article (dated 27 November 2019) : https://www.upower.com.hk/article/512358-沉寂3年終於回歸-中國羽毛球22歲新星重返國家隊 said Lin GP returns to national team, don't know whether that above article is reliable source.
I don't think its rumor anymore.the location from his weibo post it's "China National Department of Sports"
It wil be a hard task for him as he doesn't have any ranking points. He will have to play in small tournments.
Certainly, he will participate IC and Super 100 event, we'll see what his first international BWF tournament after almost four years hiatus.
Sina Sports officially reported that Lin GP returns to CHN National team : https://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2020-01-04/doc-iihnzahk1937711.shtml
Yes, confirmed, Lin Guipu is back to the national team. Thanks, CLELY, for posting. It turned out LGP actually suffered a serious injury outside of tournaments - he was looking at his handphone while descending the stairs and fell down when he missed a step. Altogether in the past three years, he injured his leg repeatedly 4-5 times which time and again disabled him from undergoing any systematic training. After a little over a year's “闭关修炼” "closed-door cultivation practice" (between 2018 and 19), he was finally admitted at his own expense ad hoc into the Zhejiang provincial team, thereafter at the 2019 National Badminton Championships he succeeded in capturing the Men's Singles crown by defeating Tian Houwei 21-15, 21-18, upon which at the final winning point, he knelt on the floor emotionally moved. Soon after, he returned to the national team, ultimately.
Tian Houwei should not have retired from the national team. He seems to keep himself fit enough to participate in nationals and international leagues. Surely, he would have been a strong candidate for the 2nd Olympic slot, given the injury to SYQ and the indifferent form of LD.
