is there any information about the injury of Yonemoto, feel bad for her after the first title for a long time
Nothing at the moment; only that she injured her left ankle, and was taken to hospital for an x-ray. Moreover, as the pair had to withdraw, they will not be able to earn any points for this tournament (same country match). That unfortunate incident aside, Japan's players have done extremely well to guarantee themselves a medal in all five categories (for XD, it is the first time, albeit bronze). Another milestone for PJB!
It was reported that an Achilles injury was suspected. If true, that would take them out for an extended period of time unfortunately.
With 1 gold and 1 silver secured, Japan is the overall winner of this WC. Only JPN team has more than 1 rep in WC finals. JPN has 5 reps in Final. However, that's not good enough. Last year, Japan won 2 golds and 2 silvers. If JPN team want to get better result, at least JPN team has to win one more gold medal. Or even more solid, won 3 gold medals or even sweep all 4 gold medals. I hope that JPN can collect as many gold medals as possible. Ganbatte!
They would achieve more if they focused on making XD more competitive in their domestic circuit. Yuta and Arisa have pretty much no challenge from anyone else so they're not really improving imho.
It is the Higashino defence that is clearly lacking in that pair. Should be easy to fix with proper training maybe against male players
Along with Yuta's lack of power smashes from the back. These two are not a traditional XD pair and in a way it's what makes them special, but also a weakness when playing against the dominant Chinese pairs.
Yeah, that's why the Thai pair have a better record against the two Chinese pairs. Sapsiree defends relatively better and Dechapol smashes harder with almost equal intelligence in gameplay as yuta.
They've both only won once against ZSW/HYQ. Anyway, improving Higashino's defence is more important than more power in Watanabe's smash. They will be forced to lift every now and then; Zheng simply targeting Higashino shouldn't yield the Chinese THAT many winners as in most of their previous matches (very much highlighted in that semifinal).
Hmm not sure what Sato's injury was exactly but her tweet indicates it's the same injury. If it is so, it will be very difficult for her to play anytime soon and will put them out of the race of Tokyo 2020.
That's true. I generalized in that comment but Thais have a respectable 5-4 leading H2H with Wang and Huang now. And if Watanabe's smashes were more decisive in Thailand Open finals against Wang Huang they would have won because Arisa was playing well that day. The thing is ZSW smashes are lethal but I feel like HYQ interceptions are the ones that mess with opponents because she's so decisive in her front court and rarely ever make mistakes.
Any info about JPN performances in Final? Curious to know what PJB and the others view about the WC finals yesterday.
I think het result is better than last year. this year : 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. last year : 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze PJB should be happy LOL
When I think of traditional XD, Zheng/Huang is the pair that personifies it the most. Zheng at the back smashing the lifts while any poorly made drops or drives will be punished by Huang. Yuta and Arisa can definitely work on improving their skills at the same time
This randomly popped up on my feed lol Quality is not good but seeing the team train is fun. AY sprinting up that hill is just so adorable!
AY said it was impossible when PJB challenged her to become 1st place Her seniors let run first so she can be in 1st place, to make PJB shocked. So funny all of them
Just for a bit of trivia: Five of the medallists in this photograph graduated from Tomioka High School: Momota, Hoki, Kobayashi, Watanabe, and Higashino. Unfortunately, the school was forced to close down due to its proximity to the Fukushima nuclear reactors, and resultant contamination levels, following the Great East Japan Earthquake. The spirit of Tomioka lives on in its so-called successor, Futaba Mirai Gakuen (Futaba Future School), built in the aftermath of the disaster, in a safer part of Fukushima. Actually, the Futaba badminton club has started to produce results; in the recent Inter-High School Championship, the girls' team won, and the boys came third.
3:35 - pvs focusing on how to play like momo... or maybe just crushing on him. heh heh... 9:05 - where can i get a fan like that? seriously... kurako?
Actually, even Park Joo Bong appears satisfied. In a J Sports article, he was quoted as saying that, "the consecutive victories posted by Momota and NagaMatsu were wonderful. Last year's results were really good and, although before the Championship I declared that the team was aiming even higher, I thought it would be difficult. But the result was that the number of silver medals increased by one, and we managed to achieve a medal in each of the categories."
