Her racket skills and shot variety have improved quite a bit. I like the way she likes to hold the game at net to get a weak lift for her to attack. For racket skills, I could see her doing hold and push at the front court and delicate cross court drops. All that being said, nothing was used today. It pretty much seemed like her usual grinding game today. May be that was the strategy devised to tackle TTY. I’m no expert to comment on that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some of my observations and concerns regarding Indian badminton and it's future: To write in short. We have to count only on Sindhu to win medals. MS is unpredictable, very unpredictable. Satwik/Chirag, I have hopes on them. Apart from that no hopes from WD and XD. And what's more worrying is where are our next batch of players? HSP, BSP won bronze at I guess 2010-11 WJC. After that Siril won silver at WJC 2015 who's now gone to wilderness. LS was touted to be next big thing. I'll be patient with Lakshya for 2-3 years more. He should win a SS in these before 2024. His target should be top 10 by 2023-24. But where are our future WS players who will succeed Sindhu and Saina ? Thailand is having Phittiyaporn Chaiwan at u19, nitchaon , busanan, pornpachwee, inthanon in Seniors. Last 4 players are quality players which will give them edge in Uber cup. I'm comparing with Thailand as during 2011-12, we were more or less at same level (as seen by World Team Rankings and performances). After Saina and Sindhu , which are those players whom we can bank upon. Ashmita Chaliha will never come in top 20, I can write it in bold. Because her talent is getting wasted by our coaches and she's not getting exposure. Aakarshi is bad. Malvika is bad. Next option is Samiya and if miracles happen then Gayatri. Samiya if she has the potential of Sindhu, then she should be in top 20 by 2022-23. We should have continuous supply of young players to the main team which is missing. There should be a proper management of B team like Japan Association does. No hopes from WD and XD at present. However I think there is one WD junior pair which is promising ie. Aditi Bhatt/Tanisha Crasto who are 16-17 years old. MD will have Satwik/Chirag. After them may come Dhruv/Krishna. I'll still say we have to be ambitious and proactive otherwise we can't always be satisfied with past laurels of Sindhu, Saina. Imagine LD resting on his laurels after winning his first WC gold. Would we have seen the GOAT now if he would have relaxed at that time. We should always strive for more. We means the players, Association, coaches, state associations and fans. We had a glorious opportunity to tap players after Saina came into picture and started winning tournaments. It's true, Indian badminton has improved from 2011-12 but is it enough to compete with other badminton nations who've prospered at a much higher rate ? We should always look into grassroots development and strive to win medals at WJC team events and also individual events. The problem lies with the Indian sports system to be honest and Indians in general who are obessed with cricket. 1.2 billion people and still, we get happy when we win 2-3 medals at Olympics. Something is seriously wrong with the system. Coming back to the topic, irrespective of today's result of Sindhu match, BAI and all other stakeholders should properly plan and work on it as to get the best possible squad before 2024 and future.
Looks like Indian badminton is on it's way up after a disappointing year Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
This has been the need of the hour. This gold medal. Still, I have some apprehensions about BAI promoting and working on this achievement. It's been a barren year and I thank Sindhu for what she's done. Already an Indian Darling.
PV Sindhu wins India's first World Championship Title. Historic and very special day for India, Gold Medal! It felt so good to hear the National anthem at a badminton tournament, I have waited a long, long time for this moment. Sindhu has become a solid player and I see her improving more by the Olympics. Sai Praneeth won a historic Bronze after 36 years (Prakash Padukone 1983), which was very important for MS. This will push the other MS players out of their comfort zones. As they will also want to win something. It is important they win an Olympic medal of any colour. We have to remember before Sindhu's first WC medal in 2013, we had 0 medals in WS. Saina Nehwal pushed herself after that and got her first Silver medal after so many QF losses in 2015. Similarly expect the MS players to start getting WC medals 2021 onwards. In MD Satwik Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty also have to ensure they get an Olympic medal of any colour. It's going to be tough. They have a year to prepare and get some good results on the circuit.
BAI announces 20 Lakh cash award to PV Sindhu and 5 Lakh cash award to Sai Praneeth for respective medals.
no track meet in sight. it was a display of relaxed confident skill and power. nobody could have beaten pvs on this day.
You were right in picking PV Sindhu and I agree this is her breakout tournament. She will show better results on the circuit. We should see Sindhu growing from strength to strength and becoming better over the next 3 years. Her match against Tai Tzu Ying was her toughest mentally and physically. She had the self belief and determination to win that and keep going. As KIm Ji Hyun said she is a work in progress, as she works on her skills and tactical acumen.
Now you will start seeing all those big corporate companies, state governments and politicians announcing huge cash rewards for PVS, just to make sure their names get associated with her success. I’m sure you will not see money going into the infrastructure of the sport. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just for an example, even before she reached finals, I just read a post from Bank of Baroda saying " we are extremely happy to have Sindhu associated with us " I was like
That's how it goes every time. Even after winning Rio Olympics silver medal, she got so much cash rewards from different state governments and some politicians even gifted her BMWs. It was like a tug of war among state governments to show who has a bigger "heart" and who "cares" for sports in India. If that much amount of money was used judiciously in opening academies throughout the country and giving good facicilities, exposure we would be a force to reckon with in future. A big IF though. When the felicitation awards after Rio silver and advertisements shooting took too many days, Gopi got irritated and told her to come back and train .
What a draw it is for China Open ! Kidambi meets Sai Praneeth and HSP meets Parupalli Kashyap in round 1.
Srikanth Kidambi is going through a difficult time in his career. Nothing seems to be working for him at the moment. What can a coach do? How do you lift a player in such a frame of mind? The problem appears to be in his head, he has a major mental block which only he can overcome. Unless he overcomes his problem, its better if some other Indian MS player qualifies for Olympic Quota. HS Prannoy played well but was unlucky to get Momota so early in the draw. Prannoy played well in patches and did well to get 19 points. Prannoy needs to work on improving his consistency and avoid rallies longer than 30. That 57 shot rally sapped all his energy. Sai Praneeth is India's best performing MS player in 2019. He is currently India No.1 in Olympic Quota race. 2.Sourabh Verma 3.HS Prannoy
From the way in the ranking, it seems Sai Praneeth will qualify for sure But we have to see for second quota. I don't have any belief in Srikanth with the way he lost to Kantaphon. It was ridiculous. How come he lose to a player like that.
Lack of self belief and mental block. Srikanth is at a stage where he can lose to any player. Even in round 1 and 2 he almost lost.
