This was Sonias first international title. Sonia, Please come to the Dutch Open so that I can admire your skills (and your beauty).
since 2013, Sonia finally get to play the World Championship this year, as in 2013 she was injured a month before WC 2013, thus she had to miss out the tournament...
watching her battling it out last night against Michelle Li in the wc2019. 2 things struck my mind: no speed no stamina. She need to be faster!!!! however, In order to be consistently faster in 3 sets... she needs to really improve her stamina a hundred fold. everything else, skills... instincts.. technique, she has it all.
It’s her acceleration. That’s slow compared to other top international players. I saw her nearly beat Okuhara in HK open last year but she let it slip through her fingers. However, you can see Shen is not the same level in speed. That Achilles tendon injury she had must have definitely affected her acceleration. Then subsequently having an infection there is a terrible result. Lots of scarred tissue and poor healing. I was surprised she managed to make a recovery to play again.
Injury (and disease) seems to be the bane of top Malaysian Badminton players. Goh Jin Wei has that mysterious stomach ailment...Goh Liu Ying is now never what she was before her knee(?) Operation...to name a few
Goh is the strongest and that's why I admire her so much. Knee operations on both knees and a major shoulder operation. To come back and do so well is incredible. But for Sonia, I think it's very hard
Well I do hope she beat all odds and return stronger each time....... ( my SC fanboy slip is showing huh)
