Ahn Jae Chang had been named the new Head Coach of the Korean national badminton team as reported by Korea’s JoongAng Ilbo today. [Source]
Whoa, now it would be very interesting to see which rackets the players will switch to...especially the Astrox 88S/D, 77, and 99... Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
Anyone know what happened to the coaching staff who were forced to resign and the new coaches? I hoped Ra kyung min and park tae Sung would stay or be reinstated. Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk
Just saw this article by Badzine's Don Hearn: http://www.badzine.net/2019/01/korea-goes-back-to-yonex-after-10-years/ This is great for Yonex and team Korea. It will be hard for Victor to return as national sponsor after their pre-emptive cancellation, but I don't think it was altogether the wrong move. Their marketing claim to fame with the Korean team was the MD success and especially LYD, but since the MD departure en-masse, there was little financial gain from the deal. Tai Tzu Ying is all they need for singles brand recognition, not to mention team Malaysia. Plus the dealbreaker must have been LYD's return playing internationally with Yonex: not only do they not get their star player with the national team sponsorship, he's going around playing (internationally again) for the main competitor!
Oh and now with Victor gone, that horrible camo uniform can be thankfully replaced. Please Yonex, put some blue in team Korea. Whoever does team Japan's design should be tasked with team Korea too. They've done a fabulous job on the last two iterations.
I just read the "Korea badminton scene" thread so am now up to date about Ahn being the new head coach. Tapatalk is good for a quick read, but not as easy to see the big picture as on a laptop...
Wow! My heart is happy at the thought of seeing Son Wan Ho using Yonex as well as the new Korean team gear. My wallet on the other hand...
Hi All, Apologies for the very late opinion over this unfortunate event. Yes.......where there is sponsorship and where BIG sponsorship is concern there must be returns. Unless the sponsor is a fanatic or lunatic for the sport and is prepared to sponsor till the company goes bankrupt, than it's a different story. Politics like it or not shall creep in sooner or later followed by abuses and other incidences. We all have read it in the news and it also affect other sports not just badminton. The ones that really suffer are the players. You are expected to win, win and win. When you are down, you are judge not just by the association, the tabloids and even TV commentators also have a field day BBQing you and your performance. If you can't produce the results expected later on, you are deem a liability follow by the quick exit sign into oblivion. Seems to me like producing Gladiators rather than sportsman/woman. Most if not all suffer in silence. Question we should ask or know is: Does all aspiring players to be are aware of the above reality check list?
Still much better than Victor camo. At least yonex is trying to hide in Technicolor! Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk
Where is Kang Kyung-Jin now? He is the miracle manager with miracle hand when they won last Sudirman Cup. I wonder if he is working elsewhere now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
