Can anyone explain what happened there at the S/J League? Unfortunately my understanding of Japanese isn't quite sufficient yet...

Basically, the person who posted the tweet is complaining that, as soon as the Momota v Sakai match finished, the audience packed their bags and shuttled off. By the time the second men's doubles started, the seats were empty.

As the S/J League is a team event, the poster finds this behaviour regrettable.

(i know bwf has nothing to do with s/j.)

fans follow their favorites no matter what the format is.

this is a good example of why there are major disconnects in how bwf manages the sport: you can't run an individual sport like a team sport and then insert team based qualification quotas into an individual tournament format when you feel like it.

bwf simply doesn't get it. there has been no hint of common sense in their major decisions throughout history. it's embarrassing and sad.

I don't see any Japanese players in BWF Gala Dinner. Are they just arrive at Guangzhou recently?

As they flew out today, that may be the case.

Probably. That's why I can't find any image about MatsuNaga won the most improved award. For the other awards, I do see the image of the winner.

They did come (heck, NagaMatsu did pick up the Most Improved award themselves!), I think they just skipped the red carpet segment?

Oh, really. I don't know that. Can't get any picture of Japanese players though.

No singles players ended up with an award, which is unfortunate. Maybe the BWF should consider giving separate awards to singles and doubles players.

I just realize that. From the history, it is usually the single players who won the awards.

I did search for this account, but somehow fail to get that picture. Maybe only them that come to the Gala Dinner. I don't know.

Sorry I missed out on that (I am not following the event that closely). Spell it out for me.

Judging by the pictures, the ladies chose individual attire appropriate for a "gala" event this year.
Last year they looked like they were on their way to an accountant congress:

Talk about group consensus. It's almost frightening.

But even this year, Matsumoto/Nagahara have been careful to co-ordinate style and colours. I would like to see a little more originality, but that may be asking for too much.
