It's pretty normal to lose focus/intensity after a period of increased stress. Hopefully one week is enough down time for her - I'd say this is all mental and not physical, though.
Just a small request. I think it's high time the administrator/moderator capitalized the first letters of Tai Tzu Ying's name.
I had missed this news. I obviously hope this is not the case. Such a rare talent yet it's starting to seem like she just doesn't care about greatness as much as some players do, especially one very loud Spaniard. If she does retire so young, it also makes her decision to skip last year's WC even worse. At the time, I remember her saying she still had many more years to try to win a WC. So "many" meant two?
Wow... Seems something is wrong in the competition (or badminton calender) for me Hope that is not true
And it only needed 20 major titles and another 25+ semi-final and runner-up results to get there. If she was playing tennis and won the latest US Open, she would have a ridiculous number of $3.8 Mio. in the bag. Losing the semi final would have gotten her over $900k alone.
If you take into account what she'd make on ads and sponsorships, probably more like 30mio for winning the US Open
So this is how her coach Mr Lai warms up with TTY before matches. He's got pretty good touch shots, probably rubs off on TTY. Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
From this alone I guess he'd lose, doesn't look to have great technique or physicality, and given that men's advantage over women is their superior strength and he doesn't even max out that advantage, I'd give it to TTY. I think most Top50 or even Top100 MS pros should win against all WS players, but at some point the technical superiority of the top women would start to edge out the physical advantages of the men. The difference should be somewhat smaller than in Tennis as there is less emphasis on pure strength in badminton, but it's still going to be quite significant, especially in terms of movement speed and the ability to end rallies (hard smashes).
At least we know that her coach is her full time partner in crime when it comes to deceptive shots. You can't really tell from that clip anything regarding his court fitness or shot quality when it comes down to a serious match. So it's more or less useless to speculate about a serious match between those two. For starters, his racket skills look flawless. Just look at that zero-effort backhand clear there. Quite impressive.
That is really not my idea of flawless technique, although it is a bit hard to judge from that far away. Looks fairly panhandle-y to me...
he would. he's cold. not even close to sparring temperature. agreed. i think he can snap the bird harder and far quicker than any opponent she would face. tty would be constantly chasing every rally. keep in mind the level of skill/ability/etc. a player like tty would accept/respect as a coach. let the speculation continue...
Then I feel like our standards differ. Come on, those are racket skills that 98% of hobby'ish players (that includes lower German club league players) would give their left pinky for. At least I would.... maybe a part of it.
I'm judging him against pro standards, not recreational/hobby...but as I said, it's hard to tell with that angle, and on my phone Compared to TTY, his technique is worse. Let's leave it at that.
At least some things are beyond discussion: They both have a hell of a lot of fun in what they are doing and the chemistry between them is awesome to watch. I think we can all agree on that. Edit: Just finished watching the video for the third time. That clip is pure badminton motivation gold. All I want to do right now is to grab my bag and enter the court. Not sure if I'm the only one that experiences the same effect...
and here i always thought that clueless-looking dud doesn't know how to play baddies..... everytime i watch TTY match and when the camera shoots him that thought always comes to my mind.... another lesson of can't judge book by its cover... thx for posting...
