Celco Axiata Open . Interesting that its the women who perform better than the men. Han Qianxi at 16 years beats the 2nd seed C Korepap, 18 year old from Thailand. Whilst in the MS Ye Haokun ,18 years old loses to a 16 year old Taiwanese Chen Shiao Cheng, also the 2nd seed. Are the women more talented than the men or is it the coaching?

They have two reasonably good 16 year old boys, but they are not sent to play in the tournament. Liu Shu min just turned 16 and liu Liang is 16+..You can watch Liu Shumin play against Chong WEi Feng here..Don't judge by the score. Watch the second set,

Well done Z. Meng. I like her aggressive play. And to beat W. Zhiyi is impressive. But lets see them out in some tournaments and not only to prepare her for the AJC and WJC 2019.

Thanks tbGoh. He has good defence, footwork but has no signature strokes that can score points like a devastating smash, great net play or deception. But yes a potential at that age. And lets see them out in tournaments for the experience. Theres nothing like the real thing.

My apologies,I've just noticed a typo error, one of the MS bronze medalists is Wu Xin (not Wi Xin). Error corrected.

Btw, Wei Yaxin is 18 years old, born 18 April 2000, and is playing three disciplines, WS, WD and XD. She is still eligible for this year's WJC in November, at Markham, Canada. So are Wang Zhiyi, 18, born 29 April 2000, and 17-year-old Zhou Meng.

If I'm not wrong, Zhou Meng has never beaten Wang Zhiyi before on the junior circuit, this is her first victory over WZY and that at the China National Championships. Prior to that, I'm not sure if they've ever met in the few senior tournaments they played in, mainly in China. I've searched the Internet in vain for any related news on them other than at the junior championships.

Incidentally,in their previous encounter, Wang Zhiyi trounced Zhou Meng, 21-9, 21-8 at the AJC'18 for the WS title. Should they meet again at the coming WJC, expect some sort of grudge match.

Needless to say, Zhou Meng beating Wang Zhiyi is no mean feat, another young CHN WS talent to look out for. Let's hope CBA fast track their progress by allowing the two to compete actively on the international pro circuit as soon and as much as possible and not wait until they are 19 years old before doing so.

A head start for young gifted players is certainly advantageous for their career development, the benefits and long-term impact cannot be underestimated. CBA should leverage on it without hesitation.

Justin. I think there maybe a fear of travelling to foreign places. There arent many coaches with that sort of experience. Thats why I think they should use former players who have travelled like Xue Song, Tian Houwei to guidet the yougsters on tbese trips.

Not that surprising, given how she (Sun Yu) was more tape/support braces than athlete when competing and even then not really in contention for titles at any level

Apparently, the talented Li Xuerui is a higher calibre player than Sun Yu, by far. Just compare their respective tournament results and H2H records against rivals.

Magically, CBA's databank website just came back to life. In theory, results from national competitions will be there. The section on the latest tournament has only the skeleton for now. Full details on the June event are there.

    See: http://bdresult.badminton-info.cn/WeApp/index.htm

The main page is http://www.badminton-info.cn/. From there, you can see player ranking and past results, similar to the BWF tournament software website.

At the Celcom Axiata MAS International Junior Open 2018, Han Qianxi, a provincial junior WS player, clinched the title, winning all her six matches in two straight games, four of which under 30 mins each, one in 32 mins and the longest only 39 mins, emphatic victories except for two deuced sets.

I hope for this creditable performance of hers that CBA take notice of it and include her in the national junior team for a shot at the coming WJC in November. I should think she deserves it.
