Axelsen-Chen showdown is rematch of last year semifinal when the Chinese succumbed meekly, 9-21 / 8-21 in Glasgow. Again, Shi Yuqi outmaneuvers his illustrious senior and crowd favourite Lin Dan, 21-15 / 21-9. Lin seems unmotivated and demonstrates different fashion for what he did at two previous rounds. While the confident Shi knows his opponent game plan well. It's still questionable whether this young man could play freely and exploit his capability against foreign contender in next round, Chou Tien Chen who outclasses Ygor Coelho in last sixteen. Bottom-half draw looks patchy, leaving the overwhelming favourite Kento Momota is surrounded by the unseeded quarterfinalists. Momota was surprised by Danish young star Anders Antonsen with his patient play instead of attacking style but it's really physically demanding match that lasted 73 minutes and Antonsen practically runs out of steam at deciding game. Mixed fortune for India camp in this discipline, their best hopeful Kidambi Srikanth stunned by Liew Daren, the nothing to lose Malaysian continue his beyond expectation run here and will take on Kanta Tsuneyama. Meanwhile Sai Praneeth powers past Hans Kristian Vittinghus with two quick games, 21-13 / 21-11 and gets uphill task next, Momota. Women's Singles Tai Tzu Ying has little trouble to take opening game against Zhang Beiwen before she tunes her normal game in second set. The World number will up against home challenger, He Bingjiao for a place in semifinal. The Olympic Champion Carolina Marin continues her convincing style to demolish Sayaka Sato and has Saina Nehwal in last eight, repetition of 2015 World Championships final. The battle of endurance will pit Nozomi Okuhara versus arch-rival Pusarla Sindhu, the World Champion won their last meeting in THA Open Super 500 recently. One more Japan ace Akane Yamaguchi will seek revenge over her last year world meet defeat to Chen Yufei. Men's Doubles The Minions book quarters spot in relative comfortable way against towering Russian Ivanov/Sozonov, an intriguing contest await them tomorrow as they facing the energetic Kamura/Sonoda. A thrilling third round encounter witnesses home pair Li JH/Liu YC survive in narrow margin to edge out Goh VS/Tan WK, 16-21 / 21-15 / 22-20. Then followed by their teammates Liu C/Zhang N who conquer Endo/Watanabe and will face tough test Conrad/Kolding tomorrow. Women's Doubles The powerful Japan ladies dominate quarterfinal stage, only one tie that involving non-Japanese pair, title-holder Chen QC/Jia YF who will find stern test to progress, Polii/Rahayu. No impossible for Japan to create all semifinal affairs at botoom-half draw if Fukushima/Hirota and Tanaka/Yonemoto could pass Indonesian rivals Awanda/Istirani and Haris/Pradipta respectively. Mixed Doubles Home best bet Zheng SW/Huang YQ are unstoppable, the Chinese looks in fine form how they tackled the improved Indonesian pair Faizal/Widjaja. They will meet Indian junior-senior combo Rankireddy/Ponnappa next. While second seed Wang YL/Huang DP have big trouble to overcome All England champion Watanabe/Higashino. Tang CM/Tse YS get scary escape to step up into quarterfinal after won over Indonesians Jordan/Oktavianti in three games, 21-15 / 19-21 / 26-24 and take on Chan PS/Goh LY who also have similar circumstances against Ellis/Smith in third round.
No Lin Dan No Fun.. Only Marcus/Kevin and Liu/Zhang could keep me motivated during WC It is so unfortunate for Polii/Rahayu to face Chen/Jia so early as I favor both pairs to get medals.
as GOAT as he is, Lin Dan is so 2008ish..it's time to move on. there are many promising fresh faces such as KM, SYQ, VA, SK, KT, etc me too, i wish they met in the semifinal instead..but gonna root for mah homegurls here come on Greys/Apri! what keeps me excited is always and forever WS! i'mma need to prepare several wigs for tomorrow coz all 4 QF will be broadcasted.. I'm so ready to get scalped by these queens
The current Lin Dan is not 2008ish but 2018ish. What I like is LD ver.2018 And after watching his first two rounds, it is such a shame for him to leave this early just because the stupid draw. Haha still bitter. My interest is in MD mostly. LD the only MS I favor.
With only 3 MAS representatives in QF, and most likely will lose tomorrow, I hope one of them can advance to SF.
PoliRahayu lucky enough dont have to play Chinese/Japan to get into QF. Remember CqCJyF have to beat DY/LYH first.
If Liu/Zhang played like they did yesterday against the minions, they could actually win. But then again, the only player so far who can pressure Liu Cheng so much and falter Zhang Nan's guard is Kevin. Hoping even more for Kevin/Marcus meeting Zhang Nan/Liu Cheng in the Final both in form.
How Long can ZhangNan last you have to wonder. The Japanese played the way that Liu/Zhang wans. Favourite for title is KamuraSonoda or ConradKolding, imo. If not brcause of bad draws last year . A title for ConradKolding will be a fair world right? lol
Zhang Nan can last as long as he wants to, it is all on Liu Cheng. Liu didn't break under the pressure yesterday and played surprisingly well at the net. Kam/Son or Con/Kol for the title you said? Last year Con/Kol lost to Kam/Son in QF straight sets, and then Kam/Son lost to Ahsan/Rian straight sets miserably in SF. And even if Con/Kol had better draw let's say facing Marcus/Kevin in QF instead, the minions would have had a WC medal by now, imo.
Chen/Jia will be under huge pressure? Defending champion,Decades of dominance, is it about to be broken? World number 1 as they are, in a slow punishing rally in WD, in front at home, that should be enough. When was the last time China didnt win WD in WC i wonder?
let's see if kevin can cut down his unforced errors today, yesterday he makes too many...not gonna survive against kam/son.
It was 1995. Gil Young-ah/Jang Hye-ock from South Korea won WD by beating Finarsih/Lili from Indonesia.
Trivias: - Since their first participation in 1983, Chinese players has won at least one gold medal in WC. - The last time that China has only won one gold medal in WC was 1995, when Ye Zhaoying won WS gold. - In 1995, Gil Young-ah/Jang Hye-ock from South Korea was the last non-Chinese pair to win WD gold. - Nozomi won a WS gold medal in last year's WC. This was Japan's first gold medal since 1977, when Etsuko Toganoo & Emiko Ueno won WD gold. As we have only one WD Chinese pair in QF, this is going to be huge pressure for the defending champion Chen/Jia. In front of their home country, against Greysia/Apriani, this is not an easy task.
