Nice one. Fourteen players take turns to serve the shuttle to Wang Lin who then jump-smashes it with all her might to get the shuttlecock pierced through the watermelon-shaped football, a feat which she succeeded on her 5th try. Twice it grazed the watermelon, and twice it hit and bounced off. It took the stunned audience a while to realize what happened and burst into resounding applause. Originally it was decided that if she failed to do so after 14 attempts, the organizer would have to use a knife to cut open the watermelon. Actually before the challenge itself, Wang Lin had already rehearsed twice unsuccessfully just to get the feel of it as that was the first time she's attempting such an act. Previously, there was an online badminton video showing such a feat but it was attempted on a whole watermelon, not one carved in the shape of a football which Wang Lin felt added to the difficulty because an uncarved watermelon with the emergence of a small gap would render it easier to split open. This gimmick was part of a promotional activity to kickoff the start of a nationwide grassroots badminton championship called "Yu Lin Zheng Ba" (loosely translated as Badminton Hegemony) for the Southeast Division Finals held on 5th June at Hangzhou West Lake Stadium. Later , many amateur players took turns to try their hands at it but none succeeded to embed the shuttle in the watermelon until it's time to call it a day.
Just found this movie on youtube. I think BCL and WL did a great job training the actors/actresses on the badminton skill. I myself think this movie is lousy. Sure just my own opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK_eFua5o9A
Wow, thanks, still pretty fresh, it's just uploaded on 2015.08.15 - 1.2gig at 720p funny how this video is being put under "Content Warning - This video may be inappropriate for some users" - sign in to confirm your age (while the many sexually explicit videos are made more accessible there) just saying, what a bizarro world lol

Q&A with Wang Lin: https://www.ixigua.com/a6561426861342065160/#mid=5816621612 Note that the first man in the video is her father. The lucky guy shows up at 1:15 in the above video. He is a tennis coach. For their honeymoon, they are planning to go to Iceland to see the polar lights. Congratulations and best wishes!
Got to envy him marrying one of our badminton beauties. I guess beauties don't go for looks in their other halves, placing more premium on talents, character, the heart, and other special characteristics that appeal to them. I recall the famous Taiwanese-Canadian Chinese actress , Sally Yeh, was once asked what she sees in George Lam whom she married, her reply was, his sense of humour as he can always make her laugh (iirc).
