i did this with Google Sheets

only tournaments with 700o points or more and after 1st March are included.

major football tournaments are included; they are shown below 5000.

it is still a work in progress.
i welcome suggestion from those of you who are good with MS Excel or Google Sheets

Can anyone explain why these two Hong Kong and Indian Tournaments are in Extra Bold white prints whereas other tournaments are slightly dim ? Screenshot_20180415-223241.png

Please kindly read about BWF Events Structure and BWF World Tour here : Post #3.

And yes, higher level or higher grade tournaments offer higher points for ranking and also higher prize money as well.

If BWF or the WC organizer will not be using the wild card, does that mean Gao FJ, who is from Nanjing and currently ranks 32, will not appear in the World Championships?

    I don't think she'll get a wildcard anyway.

    well, you never know.

China's women's singles players ranking as of now are:

    5. Chen YF
    9. He BJ
    20. Chen XX
    32. Gao FJ

If Zhang Ning and XXF were to ditch Chen XX, then Gao FJ who is the home favourite does have a chance of going to Nanjing World Championships.

The BWF said explicitly that they will not. Interestingly, it was only in a press release and was not mentioned on the BWF site itself. As for Gao Fangjie, she will be at least 6th on the reserve list, once you exclude the 5th, 6th, and 7th Japanese players. Last year, Tanvi Lad, who was originally 11th on the reserve list, ended up playing. This year had no concurrent Universiade or SEA Games, but it does have the Asian Games looming so the reserve list could be well exploited again.

If the WC organizer is to exercise this prerogative, surely the wild card will go to LXR, rather than GFJ

It wlll allow LXR to get enough ranking points to gain entry into the big tournaments quickly. Otherwise she will have to play in small tournaments for 6 more months.
How did Jorgensen manage to protect his ranking?

As the BWF pointed out here, China has no wild card to exercise, since they have players already qualified in each category:
The host MA is entitled to wild cards in each of the five categories, but since China have qualified in all five categories, the host wild card will not be applicable

Protected ranking is explained here. It appears that Sun Yu did not do it, even though she too was injured for about the same period.

I think China will get their fourth WS slot as last year Chen Xiaoxin in WR: 40 also got the fourth slot (the maximum country's slot per each category is four). It will be determined at Phase 2 after all MA give their decisions and then the remaining slots will be redistributed (around middle of June I think).

Have just realized and have to admit that I am not very interested in checking the schedule anymore because of the new World Tour structure.

The level of play often is not according to the corresponding level assigned by BWF, resulting in a bit of false expectation for certain tournaments (for instance India Open).

Missing the old 12 SS structure where I know it will always be lit with very rare exception. And I always know what tournaments to be expected to watch in the next month(s).

But most probably it is only a first 5 months syndrome that I am having at the moment. Lets see how this structure leads to by the end of this year, from a long time badminton fans' perspective.
