India beat Singapore 3-1, In Finals! Ashwini/Satwik played their first match in the semis and it was close. Satwik/Chirag missed an opportunity to win in 2 games, Satwik was tired in game 3. They are still learning as a pair and should get better with time on the circuit. Singapore can be proud of their efforts as they went down fighting. They also exposed India's weaknesses, which Malaysia will exploit with their wealth of experience and fire power. India face an uphill battle against Malaysia who are favourites to win gold.
Terry has some time to recover. And he has gained confidence with Danny by winning against India's young MD pair. So he can turn all these into positives.
EXTREMELY sweet -- I never knew/heard that Ouseph (ENG MS) would grunt whenever he smashes until now!
India reached Badminton finals. And is facing a touch Malaysia. On Paper, Malaysia should get gold . But i hope India will give them a tough fight. And on a side note, not related to badminton, for the first time in the history, Indian women defeated Singapore in the finals of Table tennis 3-1 to take the gold. Incredible.
Indian badminton team should be inspired by the TT gold which was a fairytale win against a formidable Singapore who have won 4 Gold in a row 2002-2014 India have 3 XD options, who should play? Satwik/Ashwini Satwik/Sikki Sikki/Pranaav India's original plan was to alternate between Saina and Sindhu. Sindhu's ankle sprain changed that plan, Sindhu is expected to play in the individual event.
Congrats to India for doing exceptionally well in women's team table tennis. She deserves the gold medal. Our first singles was a disappointment and this led to the downfall of the Singapore team, I feel. But credit to India's first singles who was in great form. She won two important points for India.
Tried to catch India's matches on Sony-Ten app. That Srilankan girl was too good, who played XD and WD. They almost won XD against Pranav/Rutvika - experience mattered at 19-19 in game three. Murad Ali (Pakistan) was good against Srikanth. MD Goh/Tan should win against Satwik/Chirag but really hard to guess. Satwik /Chirag are not in best of their forms. MS Srikanth vS LCW... Tough guess. 50:50 WS Saina should win against Sonia Cheah XD and WD, probably Malaysia has the edge but wont be easy for them. I guess Srikanth vs LCW will be key match and will decide the fate of the encounter.
Surprised that England did not field the adocks for xd against my team in the bronze medal playoffs........ we got a chance.
Youth won the day -- I think the IND team were all younger than the SGP team -- which means this new "trend" is likely to continue for the next Commonwealth Games...
Brutal but "classic" XD game where the guys fought to see how long they can keep smashing the women and the women fought to see how long they can keep defending -- unfortunately, by game 3 Terry Hee's (SGP) smashes were no longer a threat to Lauren Smith (ENG)... Crystal Wong (SGP) is a much better partner for Terry Hee than sorry to Tan Wei Han though -- sorry to Tan, but SGP should be sending Hee/Wong to the Supers from now on... However, despite the win, Marcus Ellis (ENG) still seems kinda of wasted/lost in XD -- he's not really the playmaker in MD (with Chris Langridge) and has trouble to playing this role in XD (with Lauren Smith)
It was almost as if Feng Tianwei couldn't believe what just happened, and the younger girls were completely shook from the aftermath. Manika is an "all balanced" type, difficult to beat even though she hqs no "superpowers". Today Gao Ning kept his eyes open and did his job although others were levels below him. PS: I was surprised how much Terry has improved, saw him after months. Slick
MS now with rajiv vs Loh ..... I'm impressed with Loh. He seemed to acclimatized well to this level of competition quickly.....After that levelling by kadambi yesterday.....Go SGP Go!
Nope Manika is 22 but both Das and Patkar are 30+ yes with expereexpe of +15 years imo that did the damage, SGP just weren't accustomed of that unusual results and fell under scoreboard pressure
So near, yet so far. In both the XD and MS, Singapore had the chance but lost it. It is now impossible to beat England for the bronze medal. But I like the way Loh Kean Yew played against Rajiv who won on experience. LKY could be an inspiration for our young players.
For the record England led Singapore 2-0 with her wins in XD and MS: XD Yong Kai Terry HEE Jia Ying Crystal WONG Lost Marcus ELLIS Lauren SMITH 21-16 19-21 18-21 Duration: 17 min 20 min 24 min MS Kean Yew LOH Lost 1 22 15 20 Rajiv OUSEPH 22-20 15-21 23-25 Duration: 22 min 17 min 22 min
Singapore lost the MD as well when Terry and Danny went down to Ellis and Langridge in 3 games 9-21, 21-19, 13-21. Singapore fought hard and needed to win at least one match to lift the spirits. But it did not come although LKY almost did it. But Singapore was no pushover as all 3 matches went to the rubber. In the end England deserved the bronze medal. Congrats England!
