LIN D nominated for Best Sports Personality of the year after his heroics in Chinese National Games, BWF World Championships and Malaysia Open SS. http://sports.ifeng.com/a/20171205/53876352_0.shtml
Hey everyone! As both an artist and someone who's been playing and watching badminton for years, I've been busy working on a portrait of Lin Dan with a wooden structure around it of a Chinese dragon, like you can see in the picture below. It's exhibited now in a sports complex in the Netherlands (where I live) to promote badminton and to show it to people who hopefully like to watch it and as it took quite a bit of time to make everything (cut and paint the wood, draw the portrait, etc.) I just really wanted to post it here on BadmintonCentral as well. If you have any questions or comments, please go ahead of course Lin Dan by SGroneschild posted Dec 1, 2017 at 6:11 PM Lin Dan by SGroneschild posted Dec 4, 2017 at 10:12 PM
Thank you for your reply I chose the side view so I could directly make him look into the rest of the composition with the blue bar where I wrote some of his most important titles.
So why is LD not at the Dubai SS final? Did he not have the ranking points for it? Or did he pull out of the Dubai SS final?
Thanks. I see his BWF ranking is #6: http://bwfbadminton.com/rankings/ But that is not his SS ranking. LD did well earlier in the year with the SS, including his win at the Malaysia SS. He also won the Swiss Open (GP level I think). And he made the semi-finals of the AE. But it looks like LD's performance at the Badminton Asia Championship and his run to the finals of the WC didn't count for SS ranking. LD had a pretty bad second half of the year at the SS.
LD is in 16th rank for Dubai Destination Ranking ---> http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/category.aspx?id=16062&category=1867
Thanks for that link! My guess is, LD's BWF ranking (http://bwfbadminton.com/rankings/) also takes into consideration his points from 2016 and may include tournaments such as the Badminton Asia Championship this year, whereas the Dubai ranking does not.
Why are people still guessing about this, its all clear and the principle is extremely simple....the BWF ranking takes into consideration all official tournaments. That includes continental championships as well as worlds and team events. The SS ranking, like the name should tell everyone, only takes Super Series events into consideration. That is the reason some players are lower there than expected (I.e. current world champion Axelsen), and in some cases not qualified for the SS finals because of it (I.e. Lin Dan). Another difference is that the BWF ranking considers the 10 best tournaments an athlete had over the last 365 days, whereas the SS ranking only counts the SS/PSS events of the ongoing calendar year and doesn't average them in any way (I.e. play more, get more points).
GP and GPG are not part of the Super Series and thus have no impact on the SS ranking. Swiss Open is irrelevant, as are the WC and BAC.
SS winning days were those....He had the ferocity of the Blazing sun and possessed a jolly nature. Unfortunately, Legs don't do him justice anymore
