I think that should be the end of the little jibes against each other.

Anymore warrants deletion and possible warnings

Anyway, after several down throughout the year most probably in WC... LCW close the year with flying color.

I will be here in Dubai waiting :)

Not only was it great to see LCW win the HK open but to see him play this well again is awesome. Mentally he seem so relaxed and quietly confident and it showed in the variation he adopted throughout the final. One of LCW's greatest strengths is his ability to play a multitude of different shots in pretty much any scenario. And it's something I've not seen him do for a while now. But as you say, CL was not playing at his best, never really threatened LCW.

In my opinion if LCW can keep up this style of play (good variation), perhaps with a little more of the small deceptions he can save more energy, particularly in G1 and ultimately prolong his playing career.

Amazing how LCW went from so-so at the China Open losing to Ng Kah Long in R3 and then suddenly stepped it up to raise his game to such a high level the following week at the HK Open. Phenomenal.

However, apart from what Cheung said about Chen Long playing a normal game, G2 with Chen Long was too close for comfort, had Chen Long handled the crucial points better, anything could happen in G3.

Still, it's a fine victory. Hope to see LCW's excellent form carried over to Dubai SSF.

Tight hardfought matches hone every aspect of your game. And the effect lasts some days at least.
IMHO, LCW had to fight hard and play at the best of his attacking game to get past Wei Nan, who has beaten him a couple of times in the past
The effect of that match lasted the tournament and helped him get in the beast mode.

When interviewed after the match at court side how he managed to overcome G2 8-13 deficit, his reply was to just enjoy the the game. Seems like his mental state has elevated to the next level. If he keeps on playing like this, anything can happen.

Lcw was too overconfident against Ng Ka Long and threw the match away. But look relaxed all tournament, if not for some loose shots would have won even easier.

"Enjoy" it the key word here in his mind and it pull out the stress away in 2nd set. What he said he already thinking about 3rd set and he just want to enjoy the 2nd set and it turn up he won it.

Too much heavy burden he and his country men had placed on his shoulders for OG gold, big matches etc. We can see that his mind had practically freezed in the past when the matches get tight.

Now that he's near retirement age, less expectations on him from himself and his country, so now he plays for the enjoyment and passion of it. If he loses, then he'll decide on earlier retirement. If he wins, he'll decide to tell the fans see you next year...

I think this year's early losses have had a little silver lining in taking the pressure off him.

Finally, the nation realises he is human and the weight of expectation is off him. Perhaps it is a pity he didn't have these losses before the world championships. Instead, the pressure made him too tight to play freely.

Agree on the above and that brings me to Rio 2016. Had MAS came out victorious on the first 2 final, XD and MD (although XD highly unlikely) I think the pressure would have lessen considerably and he may have won his 1st Olympic gold.

    Agree, sort of...

Because asking LCW to overcome *both* LD and CL in OG, both of whom were maximally motivated to grab the gold, now that may be asking too much from LCW...

    Hey everyone!

I've been playing and watching badminton for years and since I'm an art student and I love watching LCW play, I decided to try out making a portrait and a structure around it like you can see in the picture below.
Since it took quite a bit of time to draw the portrait, cut the wood, paint it, etc. I just really wanted it to show it here to people who can't get enough of badminton as well. :D

If you have any comments or questions, please go ahead of course :)

wait wait, so you created the whole 'stand-alone pillar', carved and painted it?
    SUPER COOOOOL

Is the portrait exchangeable? With newer portrait for instance?
Maybe badmintonnederland should start badmintion art exhibition to have this in there and potentially collaborate with other art exhibition in attempt to promote badminton further :)
