Usually if you make it to top 16, you are usually of a certain standards.

Imagine you are at rank 9-12 trying to fight for a place in year end tournment and your 1st rd opponent is a seeded no. 1 or 2 player. Ouch!

Anyway, as what you said. Not possible to please everyone.

Yes, I can imagine that can be harsh. The rank 9-12 player would feel held back by unfair/unlucky draws.

However, perhaps the randomness of the draws helped that player get to rank 9-12 more quickly in the first place. Perhaps, when the player was rank 17-32, he/she got some lucky draws not meeting rank 1-16 players in R1 thus being able to qualify to R2 just by beating other rank 17-32 players.

The randomness can make the draw more forgiving for lower ranked players and can make it less forgiving for higher ranked (unseeded) players. Something for something. Impossible to give everyone an easier draw indeed.

They also played together at the ranking competion (All Members, iirc) a couple of months ago and lost at qf stage to Akane Araki/Aoi Matsuda. Video of that game:

Absolutely. Really hard to see your fav and arguably the best pair on the circuit going through a rough patch just because of confidence dip esp even after virtually winning almost everything.
Desperately don't want to see them split.

Sure thing. You weren't wrong though, when you said "league match". Because on the first day of the S/J League at the beginning of this month, they also played together. Don't know if MM was injured (she was present), or if they really need a break from time to time.

Jeremy Gan, the ex-MS Double coach, jumped ship to JPN already ? I never thought that PJB will ever hire foreign coaches besides Reony Mainaky.

THW can't even earn 10 pt in each set. Has THW declined so much? He concentrates too much on his study. :)

CTC has played in many SS tournaments back-to-back nonstop. He is like the Energizer Bunny.

I meant coaches who don't speak Japanese is hard to coach in JPN. Reony and PJB are fluent in Japanese language. Reony was not hired by JBA; He is a badminton club company employee.

Saina Newhal vs Chen Yufei is a very exciting match up. A shame it's not on TV courts :/

CL will cruise against Wang Tzu Wei; LCW is shaky against Wei Nan and the score is going to be very close.

Defending champion meeting Lin Dan, looking forward to that one.
SS Queen TTY against resurgent Takahashi, could be a cracker.
CYF vs SN should be exciting as well, both have yet to play against each other.
Twin Towers facing YYS with his new partner. Let's see how much the new pair can trouble them.
