To Z's credit she saved many points before succumbing 21-19.
So I got one pick right. Jindapol is the WS champ!

I hope my MD pick Rasmussen has enough energy to last 2 matches, now that he is playing in the XD.

The Danes have lost XD G1 to the young unseeded Chinese pair. But the Danes are also not seeded.

Gemke covers the court very well but I think Hsu Jen Hao has the stamina and experience to deal with the 20-year-old who is the surprise package here. Looks to be a close affair.

Gemke has to be more aggressive. Playing long rallys with Hsu won't bring him victory

Looking worrisome, HJH is still not able to pull away, neck and neck so far.

A long, punishing rally, Gemke making the final mistake, probably tired at the end of it.

Gemke one game in the bag, looking good, another promising Danish up-and-comer.

18:16 >18:17 nice rally. I'm impressed, very mature and consistent game of Rasmus. We'll see how will he look with stamina in second game

Is Gemke already 20?this is the first tourney I saw him.
I know we have seen many Danish players "blossoming" late, let's hope we see more of him consistently in the near future.
So that he can give AA run for his money

He has been held back a lot by injuries. In 2015/2016 Gemke was away from competition for a whole year due to injuries.
Before that, he beat AA consistently (they are from the same year and the same club). He was also in the semis of the national championships in 2014 beating Kim Bruun and Emil Holst on the way before losing to HKV.

I think (hope :p) we will see him take a jump next year like AA has.

All Babolat Kit. Looks like their best result until now is a GP title, so would make sense if they're not part of the national setup. They showed moments of talent, but also has some severe weaknesses (too slow to the drops, Akira has poor defence on her backhand side, neither player really brought the shuttle down in their attack - too flat all the time, not much variety in attack, inconsistent lifting).

Hope Matsuda didn't actually do any damage to her hand (thought she was the better of the two, despite her injury).
