Indeed a big void......(you can say that again). Whether if he still wants to play like what our Choon Han or PG did, the decision is still his to say but maybe it's also nice to see if he's around as it can be sometimes comfortable as far as a fan like me is concern.
This question still with no answer until this time. LCW said, "In Malaysia, I see Polish Open champion Lee Zii Jia as a player to watch. But he still has a long way to go." While waiting for the youngsters to catch up, Chong Wei said he would continue to make his presence felt. Source: http://www.thestar.com.my/sport/bad...ts-fierce-rivalry-between-axelsen-and-momota/
No one can be the next Lee Chong Wei. We should find another player like Lee Zii Jia and develop him. Just like the worsening 8x World Champion Nicol David having no successor.
There are many players that can replace him as far as the MSIA first MS is concern but very unlikely that they can achieve what DLCW did as a player in his 18 year services with BAM. DLCW will certainly retire within this few years and only god and he knows when If that day comes. BAM MS department will definetly feel a gargantuan pressure and task to make sure all players under their MS dept can produce signifficant results as to ensure the the world does not forget that MSIA still has someone that can give competitive challenge in the MS ...... at least. As like the great Morten F said while he was in BAM, to find DLCW replacement now that can emulate his achievement is impossible but in future.....that is possible. IMHO, it is the matter of time frame and exposure and if BAM want someone under his MS dept to achieve or even better what DLCW contribute then that player must from NOW must consistenly able to produce good result, winning many big titles and make his present felt within top 10 bracket within this 1or 2 years esp if his age near or in his early 20s. BAM also need to dig deep and scout for new talent and enggage intensively by collaborating with private clubs to develop massive and larger pool of potential young players. DLCW once said that it require maybe hundreds of new players to produce one future DLCW. Larger pool of allocation from the Ministry should be given to BAM in the next budget if such quest need to be achieve and it is interesting to hear how does Msia 2018 budget will be once presented by Msia PM later. As far now he has no replacement and to make things worst there are even no Msia MS players other than DLCW is within world top 10 or even 20 for now that can continue MSIA strong present maybe for this many years to come if DLCW choose to retire today as he is celebrating his 35th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DLCW SS
At the moment, NO. Future, probably YES. In WJC Malaysia always comeback with something. The issue is, how they will progress after winning/runner up from Junior to senior level.
Just like Lin Dan for China, I doubt MAS can produce another Lee CW in the foreseeable future, not for the next 30 years at least.
LCW and LD were losing semi finalist in the WJC in 2000 or 2001 . Bao Cunlai who went on to win the title beating Sony Dwi. Ask today youngster about Bao they said Bao who?
Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Jao could be the duo to replace Lee Chong Wei if both of them somehow produce a consistent performance in all of their matches. Both of respective meltdown against Kunlavut and Rasmus should be a sign that they need to improve their way of tackling situations. I can only hope for the best, not wanting them to turn like Soo Teck Zhi and Zulfadli.
too bad Misbun Ramdan no longer very active in badminton career, or else he may can go back those two up in upcoming Thomas Cup event, meanwhile there are Lim Chi Wing, Soong Joo Ven, Iskandar Zainuddin, Cheam June Wei, Tan Jia Wei and R Satheishtharan would need to build up their efford to place in the team... My prediction of Thomas Cup MS players for MAS team: 1. Lee Chong Wei (if he still want to play on) 2. Lee Zii Jia 3. Iskandar Zainuddin 4. Soong Joo Ven or Lim Chi Wing 5. Zulfadli Zulkifli or Leong Jun Hao (if Lee Chong Wei decided not to play Thomas Cup anymore)
I don't think Misbun Ramdan can go far in elite circuit, he plays just like Zulfadli, the old rally way which is unpractical today. Other backups are not consistent and need to step up if they want to represent Malaysia.
To be fair, those two (and Nicol David) are very special players. Every country has that dream to have a player like that. Special players like them can't just be found and polished. There's a lot of luck.
BADMINTON legend Morten Frost, who is a BAM former technical director, speaks with Timesport before he leaves Malaysia next month. Journalist (Q): You have always spoken about DNA and how some players are just born with the gift. Based on your last two years here, who are some of the young players you see who do have this special trait like Lin Dan, Chong Wei or other greats? Morten Frost (A): I have been asked this a lot and my answer will always be this, there is a reason why some players are known as legends. You do not replace them. It doesn't happen every year. You do not replace a legend with a legend. I was part of a group in the 1980s and after that we had Peter Gade who played alongside Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat, Lin Dan and even Chong Wei. But even that took some time, it did not just happen. And from that period until now, we have not had anyone who has been as consistent. It was a gap of at least 20 years. It's very tricky, because right now I do not see anyone yet and it may take some time. It is still too early to say with the younger ones. https://www.nst.com.my/sports/badmi...hat-you-do-not-replace-legend-legend#cxrecs_s PS: Where are those badminton fan that said if LCW retire earlier the coach will be able to groom another player to take over his place.
Replace Lee Chong Wei?.... Are you kidding me? Replace Lee Chong Wei who makes other Top 10 players look like Under-10 Amateurs. The guy so explosive that the best defenses in the game don't even have the time to react let alone reach his shots. Physical prowess never seen before in the history of the game. Dedication and desire to dominate which is unmatched. A once in a lifetime talent that has no parallel whatsoever.... Good luck replacing him.
All talented Malaysian players should have the talent to know to get out of analysis if they have potential and earn lots more moolah abroad in places like Aus where washed up players like Tan chun Seang can win local tourneys with ease and set up training facilities to make big bucks.
Malaysia doesn't need someone to replace Lee Chong Wei. She only has to produce a player who can win Olympic or World Championship Gold. Players like Sun Jun, Ji Xinpeng, Hendrawan, Poul Erik, or Viktor. The player who is not as great as Lee Chong Wei but produce the best result in Major. Player like Lee Chong Wei was born not created. You can only hope that player like him will be born again in you country but it is the thing you can do, hoping and praying.
not just a player, there need a lot of players at least 4-5 players that can win every tournaments, and make it dominant...
