Why is LCW calling himself old man? He could've been the Federer of Badminton but it seems like he's mostly given up now.
Because he is the oldest MS player on the circuit excluding the one and only Lee Hyun Il. Correct me if I am wrong.
Hafiz Hashim doesn't compete in the SS event anymore, so I excluded him. I forgot about Hu Yun though, but that makes LCW one of the oldest MS player in SS circuit.
I once said to a friend in 2014 "The day LCW loses his speed is the day he gets trampled over by younger players." Interesting situation now.
I don't see it that way. I see it he get trampled over due to **** shot placement and countless mistakes while not under pressure. Sadly, he is not going to improve that aspect anymore. GG LCW.
I once said in this forum when LCW loses on Wednesdays and Thursdays, he should seriously take a look at his options.
....And balance it out with the commercial opportunities he still has. Free business class flights, sponsors coming, appearance money. Still an OK deal.
I think LCW has to change his game from counter attacking, fast footwork and powerful smashes to more strategy focus style of play like LD, if he wants to keep going.
I think that he can consider switching over to playing doubles.. have seen him play doubles in exhibition matches and he seems quite impressive in doubles. More suitable for his age
Malaysia players have always been mentally weak, probably a trend that is never going to change if the coaches dosent do something about it..
Conflict of Opinion between Lee Chong Wei and Prannoy over speed "I'd no problems keeping up with Prannoy's speed. I lost today because I gave too many easy points. I must minimise these mistakes." Prannoy : "Ovbiously, he has slowed down over the years but he still has the touches. He can play in any condition. I don't think he has lost it." A contradiction, but I will take the man himself with a doubt, seeing his **** showing near the end of G3.
even Lin Dan admit himself he's getting slower, only Lee Hyun Il managed to keep his speed, unbelievable..
it's not a conflict. there's a difference in what each of them are experiencing in the match, and both are factual based on what i saw. hsp states lcw is slower now. this is true. lcw states hsp is not too fast for him. this is also true in lcw's mind given how he did not play with a sense of urgency... as if he could kick it up a gear at will. lcw indeed gave away too many easy points, however, i dont think lcw is equating it to his slight loss of speed. i most certainly would because even though his mind may still be sharp, his consistent reflexes/muscle twitch has visibly slowed down. this aspect if often absent from an athlete's consciousness in the early stages of their post-peak condition. lcw's statement is early evidence of it. pay attention to his future interviews after losses start to increase.
furthermore I think LCW having his eyesight problem, as he always thought he see the shuttle would land out, but it is landed in...
That is not a new problem. Reminds me of how he lost the final few points of the OG 2012 gold because of same.
