The arguments make me think that still large portions of the globe do not play badminton. Maybe in the future the whole of Europe, the Americas and Africa will play play enthusiastically and furnish great champions. Then we'll turn back to our present time and see it as very local and not totally significant. The great players of those time will have better claim to goatesness. But also maybe global warming will grill us all anyway.
for such a small country, they are a force in badminton. and thankfully so. badminton won't be considered an olympic sport if only china (and asia) dominates. so from time to time, china must give away some titles for other countries especially western ones
That's true, but the result is the same for our concern : diminished competition. But I am only saying so for the sake of the argument, I have no opinion regarding who is GOAT
Should I congratulate you on your second childhood ?! At the very least, learn to respect 'the elderly' even if you've forgotten who you are, such as Peter Gade, Lee Hyun Il, Xiong Guobao, Cai Yun, Lee Yong Dae, Lee CW, Sun Jun, Dong Jiong, Kenneth Jonassen, Steen Pedersen, and the list goes on - and even if you don't agree with us here.
It will be belittling other countries if they won because "China must give away some titles" Other countries won because they were better.
Olympics Men's Singles Gold Winner 1992 Barcelona Alan Budikusuma 1996 Atlanta Poul-Erik Høyer Larsen 2000 Sydney Ji Xinpeng Many of the winners of the "unofficial World Championships", the AE, did not have a chance to compete in the Olympics as badminton was added to this competition much later in 1992. But even in the Olympics, as I have shown earlier, LD got only 2 golds in MS whereas some other badminton players registered more than 2 golds in different disciplines. These successful players were not called the greatest. LD with only 2 golds became the only one to be identified as "goat" from his fans, who held extreme views naturally. Last year, LD got a chance to win his third gold which should cement his "immortality" and the "greatest" status, but, to the disappointment and embarrassment of his fans, he failed at the hands of his toughest opponent LCW. Worse still he was then subdued by the young VA for the bronze. So how can he, or his fans, claim him to be the greatest of ALL TIME?
You need to check your own logic, because you are trying to compare a world tournament (AE) with a local competition (the Kerala Open). The AE is described as follows: All England Open Badminton Championships From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The All England Open Badminton Championships is the world's oldest badminton tournament, held annually in England. With the introduction of the BWF's latest grading system, it was given Superseries status in 2007, upgraded to Superseries Premier status in 2011.] The world's first open tournament was held in the English town of Guildford in 1898, the success of which paved the way for the All England's inaugural edition, which was held at London's Horticultural Halls in 1899. Although the inaugural edition consisted of just the doubles format, the singles were introduced from the second edition onward. It was eventually considered – especially after the first Thomas Cup series in 1949 – the unofficial world championship of the sport until 1977, when the International Badminton Federation launched its official championships.
Lin Dan is GOAT : Peter Gade, Xiong Guobao, Lee Chong Wei, Lee Hyun Il, Jan O Jorgensen , Parupalli Kashyap, Kidambi Srikanth, Zheng Sewei, Lee Yong Dae, Cai Yun, Marc Zwiebler, Emil Holst, Rajiv Ouseph, Kieran Merilees etc etc. Show me any other player having so many advocates for the GOAT status.
I respect their opinion but I differ for the reasons I have written.. They are not God and even men of academic and scientific distinction were proven wrong from time to time.
Okay, Lin Dan has still has time in his career according to you to become GOAT based on his future achievements.
