What an interesting World championships. I wasn't able to go this year as had a lot going on at home. I however caught the matches on the BBC website and on Youtube.

The finals were brilliant, first up the WD, A great back and forth tussle between the chinese and japanese girls. The experience of the chinese just about edged it in the last game.

Then my favourite match of the finals, the WS. Okuhara played awesome to overcome Sindhu whom I thought was the favourite going into the final. That last point in the second game, where both players left everything on the court was sublime to watch. True determination and fitness shown by both players. Being Indian, I would have loved Sindhu to have won the gold but a silver and also a bronze (Saina) for the indian girls is not bad at all :)

Then the MS, I really thought Lin Dan would break the record but Viktor had other ideas. He was consistent all tournament and played the tense points really well. To close Lin Dan out in 2 games is a class act. I really like Viktor, one of my favourite players to watch and with Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei on the twilight of their careers, I really wish Viktor is the No.1 force to be reckoned with in the future. I like his temperament, his hard work and also he deserved this title. I will be keen to see his progress in the future.

The MD was a one sided affair and went to the seeded pair. Ahsan having a new partner showed and the chinese used their experience to shut out their opponents easily.

The final XD match was great to finish the tournament. Its like Dejavu. How many times do we see Ahmad/Natsir come from behind and close out important matches. A great spectacle and I for one enjoyed it.

Overall, a good showcase for the sport and I cannot wait to the All Englands next year, I will be there for sure!!!

    Kindest regards,

    -Ajay-

Interesting to see so many spectators even on day 1. Unlike other tournaments (probably except Indonesian Open) that the stadium was almost empty before the F and SF days.

No. You can't force a person to join. He had offers to join but refused. His famous father also has a history of shooting strange comments from the mouth so you might wonder at their perhaps less than obvious decision making choices.

Yes I did. He's a tall and handsome young man. Very polite and showed no airs. His Mandarin must have improved and it would not be surprising that he has many secret admirers from China.

Oh yeah, other than losing some sleep, the European calendar and the night play is good to watch.

You know, Finally MS is not boring as it was.

One can said XD is boring now but seeing how injured natsir can still beat world number 1 is wow. It will be damn boring when natsir retires, i will say. I think MS and WD is the most boring sector for close to one decade till 2015 or so. You can see stars like Lee,Chen and Lin being WR1 and winning Olympic/WC left and rightfor so long. Its really boring for the competition other than when they face each other. Just for info, the MD already changed ranks 4 times since the Olympic. so MD is the most exciting sector, definitely.

I think Viktor has truly broke that dominance ( and Not Son). Son is just consistent, he is not winner. Its weird to say but when I was at Malaysia when VA losing to Ajay, he just looks mediocre and also at sudirman cup, still he has many R1 exits. But, what i like is he is super explosive. The win in Dubai SSF has changed his mentality.

This year's WC was quite exceptional.
No top-seed won the title. So there were lots of upsets and surprises that made the tournament more interesting..
All matches were generally long and well-fought, except for MD. But for unseeded Ahsan and Rian to reach the Final is itself exceptional.
The WS was the most demanding and perhaps broke the record for its duration at such a top tournament. It was a battle of not only skills and stamina, but more so of mental strength in the end.
Young Viktor Axelsen was in top form in MS, slaying both the dragon and the goat from China to claim top spot. Much was expected of India's top men singles but they somehow failed to be at their best. However India's top two ladies did not disappoint and the younger Sindhu was unfortunate to lose by a whisker.
In the end, it was China which remained the top country with two titles, in WD and MD. But Japan also had two finalists, one of whom, Nozomi, emerged as WS champion.

I think Ahsan/Rian is the first unseeded pair or players in the 40+ years of history of WC to enter WorldChampionship Final?
    anyone checked into that?

Haven't followed any posts, but the results of this World Champs simply reinforces what I was saying in the past - MS is finally a strong era - VA crushing CL and then defeating LD in straight sets!

And WS is arguably in the strongest era ever (has been for the last few years). Well done to Okuhara! Greatest WS match of all time? It has to be, given the context.

Nice to see Ahmad/Natsir winning again! They deserve it.

That's cos LCW is playing at too high a lvl vs rest of the National Team...

E.g in DEN, you could just get JOJ/HKV to spar with Viktor; but in MAS, you must hire high-lvl sparring partners for LCW, which you cannot really use for rest of the team, etc.

And MAS Sports Minister specifically wanted LCW to keep playing as a kind of team leader, the way CHN team feels good/motivated when LD does well...

I think NO can play better, with less unforced errors. She better do, because TTY will be there
