I think i got 2/5 right. haha. Yeah Ahmad/Natsir. Zheng Chen is the future. incredible talent imo. Without Natsir, I think CQC is unbeatable.
Japanese and India are emerging as one of top badminton powerhouses. Interesting facts: There are no Koreans or Malaysians in the finals. In fact, there werent any Malaysians left from QF through Finals.
Congrats to Viktor Axelsen. He has done something that Peter Gade hasn't done - win a WC. Viktor has a chance to eclipse Peter Gade's legacy if Viktor can continue to win big tournaments. Viktor kept his nerves today, something that he couldn't do in the Japan SS final when he lost to LD, something that he couldn't do even when he beat Tian Houwei in the Dubai SS finals. When I look back at the Dubai SS finals, I remember Viktor was so nervous. Fortunately for Viktor, Tian Houwei was equally nervous that day so Viktor got away with the Dubai SS final win. But then Viktor showed composure in his India SS win. I was wondering if Viktor could maintain nerves today and he did. If Viktor can remain cool and calm, he is a force to be reckoned with. Viktor's defense has improved immensely from 3 years ago. Also, Viktor's smash accuracy has also increased. I remember in close matches, Viktor would smash the shuttle out. But today against LD, when LD was making a comeback in the second set, Viktor delivered accurate smashes to keep the gap in points between himself and LD. Viktor is a much more consistent player than he was 3 years ago. Overall today and yesterday, Viktor had very accurate smashes. He played an excellent semi-finals against Chen Long, and then repeated it today with LD.
But Malaysia have an active youth WC! He just had to give way for LCW special practice.... No, seriously I wonder why ZZ fizzled like that. What's BAM role and LCW role in this? Did he just waste his talent? Cheers, FB
VA is now the only player in the world, to have faced LD more than 3 times and end up with a positive score! (4-3) Fun fact: LD is in the red vs all Danish World Champions!! Cheers, FB
Yes, Malaysia has many young talents every editions of WJC but they havent performed when playing on senior circuit. Is BAM focusing too much on LCW and neglecting youngsters or are the youngsters stop trying as hard once they start playing on real professional tour?
Finals day at last, and we have a live band face painting and, for those not afraid of the drift, a spot of outdoor badminton Inside the arena we were treated to a light show given by the audience themselves! In the WD, Fukushima/Hirota did well to claw back the second game. Then it was the usual game break following which, G3 began disastrously for the Japanese, leaving them too much to recover. G2 had gone well for them, so it makes you wonder about coaching at such moments. As they say, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
korea is in transition. their future is gonna kick some butt come tokyo 2020. malaysia? yikes. i'm not completely sold on indonesia's near future, either. china, india, japan and korea are growing towards 2020 and it's going to be a barn burner.
Youngsters problem. Weak mental and mistakes prone. Every MAS MS was entered in IS and they lost easily in early rounds.
As for Koreans, they just had a BIG change of guard, would take some time for the youngsters to come up. Please remember here, that most of the great power houses, operate in Olympic Cycles. This means that the team is programmed to peak going into the Olympics, not just after the Olympics.
That is itself a fault of BAM. The most promising youngster of the country is independent of the federation! No body alone can get enough resources of a national federation, with all the money, infrastructure, players, training partners, etc. involved.
If today's finals had only consisted of the WS, the audience would still have had their money's worth. Nozomi faced off against Pursala Nozomi was in good nick, and took the first. But Pusarla fought back in G2, and won an epic rally to win the game 22 - 20. Could Nozomi recover in G3? At the mid-game break Pusarla had the edge The game reached its climax but Nozomi took it, leaving a totally distraught Pusarla Nozomi gave the post match interview (to Gail Emms) in English A popular win, but credit to both players for an entirely enthralling match.
In the MS it was a cultural, geographic and generational clash between two Titans, LD and Victor. The match progressed. The Danish coaches were calm LD was not happy A superb Alexsen took the match The eponymous Victor but still gracious enough to sign autographs afterwards for his fans That's it from me. Thanks for reading. smautf
That's a big shoe. I wonder if that's just part of the props or did Shaquille O'Neal start playing badminton?
