What a nice idea you got there.
    All players happy, organizers happy.
    Both side win. :)

There shouldn't be any wildcards., to whoever, from any nation. Making a mockery of the rules and regulations.
Either an automatic qualification for the defending champion (not even if he is the champion of another tournament) or through qualification.

chen long doesn't need a wildcard. he qualifies due to his ranking. i don't get what everyone's worried about.

Ok. So if he was from a different country but with all those individual honours and close matches and fame, he wouldn't have got a wild card.....Sure.:)

You know that's not gonna happen. I don't think there's another Kevin Cordon waiting in the first round. :D

Correct, Lin Dan fully deserved it on his own merits. And I hasten to add, so do Chen Long, if BWF is sensible and has the business acumen, the organizer and sponsors would agree too.

He is No.9 in Race to Glasgow ranking, which mean he didn't qualify due to 3 CHN player in top 8, SYQ, THW, LD.
A country has a limit of 3 players only.

That's the rule. WSX also didn't go to London or Rio because player limit.

And that's exactly the reason why I don't understand why people overrate the WC and Olympics. A SS(P) tournament often has a harder draw and tougher route to the final.

Mostly because WC is only one time a year, four year for OLY.

Anyway, being a World Champion or Olympic Champion doesn't mean much except for the title.
Even most of them lost a lot of time after that.

Who get the 2015 wildcard? Or there isn't one?

But take Chen Long for example he won the Olympics last year but nothing else. Other players have won several SS titles, which in my opinion is worth just as much. But I know I'm pretty much the only one thinking this way.

It is just a one title, only rare.
Chen Long doesn't do much after Rio except losing.
In fact, he didn't win anything in 2016. Even if CL won OLY, it doesn't mean he is a GOAT.

Nope, me too. SS titles are more difficult to win where there are top players.
Olympics have players from perhaps Mozambique or Paraguay. LD could beat these players playing with his right hand.

Are you kidding? SYQ is 24 iirc, THW is not that old either. Or do you think retiring because of lacking results?

Really? Gao Huan and Xue Song are already retired? Why?

I knew about Du Pengyu. But wasn't he No. 3 when he retired?
