I'd argue both offense and defense, defense alone or mostly don't bring you to the top.

LD hitting huge winners now and getting really active, he looks fired up.

Definitely, you still have to score points to win the game, but I personally have my priority at defense. If you manage to return all of your opponent's shots, they'll definitely get frustrated like Axelsen used to (and still does I think) and that'll offset their rhythm, then you just have to wait for them to make mistake.

That's why I always feel Lin Dan has to be disciplined enough to work harder on his fitness and stamina, but it still boils down to his motivation which , unfortunately, isn't anywhere as high as it used to be; at least, in 2013 and 2014 despite two long breaks, he still had sufficient drive to carry on at a high level but it started to decline after that period.

Economic yet fully in control. LD's pretty much playing a perfect control game here in G3.

Based on how LD performs thus far in the MO, I think he really wants to get one from LCW in Lee's home court, else why would he be playing in the MO where he knows Lee has always triumphed.

LD leads 19-9 yes yes yes!!

It's obvious JC is going for tight spinning net shots to force Lin Dan to lift and then smash it hard.

Don't expect too much from LD, he will lose to Son tomorrow and upset the apple-cart.

That fall was dangerous but heck yeah! LD puts the nails into the coffin without wasting any more time! Onto the semifinals! Nothing against SWH but I hope LD gets a quick and easy win against him. LD has a 11-2 h2h record against SWH according to the stats.

I think the answer will only be known tomorrow, he's taking it one match at a time; nobody knows until the last minute what he's up, not even his coaches, I suspect. He practically does what he wants and Li Yongbo doesn't seem to care, except when he needs him for the team majors, such as the Sudirman Cup and Thomas Cup.

I've a feeling Lin Dan just didn't want to lose to Jonatan two times in a row, after the INA Open last year

Lin Dan showed his class, except that there were a couple of points where I was sure a younger and fitter Lin Dan wouldn't miss and let his opponent came back to take it.
