FHF thanked Zhang Nan his partner he started from scratch from just like Cai Yun, he felt a lot of pressure when he started pairing with ZN and everyone was expecting them to be like FHF/Cai Yun.

He stated he felt the stage is getting further and further for him by day , even though he has many experience playing in the Olympics it's not like it's a really big deal when coming to a huge tournament like this.

I guess his crying was of joy, emotional and relief that he's eventually won the gold and the TV presenter was asking now you've proven you're the best.

Interesting, Fu Haifeng is playing for Guangdong Shiji Cheng (Century City) in the CBSL and he's seen coaching his fellow teammates Chen Qingchen/ Yu Xiaohan in WD.

Is he considering a coaching job after retirement? As Li Yongbo recently said, none of the retiring and retired players have expressed to him an interest in being a coach yet while pointing out the more stringent requirements nowadays. At the moment the only one pursuing the prerequisite coaching course as one of the primary requirements is Cai Yun.

Wow, Zhang Nan is pretty much the GOAT of doubles.

He can play mixed doubles and men's doubles universally. Olympic gold medals in both disciplines, multiple WC as a mixed doubles pairing, and CBSL 2016/2017 has shown he can literally pair with many different partners and win every single time.

Calling ZN the "Greatest of All Time" is a bit extreme. No doubt he is a great player, but not even close to GOAT. There are many before him that could claim that title. CY, FHF, PJB, KDM, LYD, HS to name a few...

Yes, look at the people you are comparing though. They only play MD.

Why I'm calling him goat is because he can play literally anything, with so many different partners and excel both disciplines.
XD, front court specialist ZYL no problem, a more balanced player like Li Yunhui no problem. He's proven he can play with a past prime Fu Haifeng.

This guy has 5 golds already in WC and Olympics. Only Fu Haifeng in that list has more golds (at 6).
This guy is only 26, and still has at least 4 years left in him.

He doesn't excel at anything, and is thus is less 'shiny', so people don't consider him the GOAT. Unlike
people like CY had insane speed, HS has insane prediction skills, LYD defense, Fu Haifeng insane attack

Difference is that outside of the OG gold, he didnt do that much in MD. And while I consider FHF amongst the greatest MD players of all time, even I have tonsay that this OG tournament was kinda whack, Koreans and Indonesians failing, Goh/Tan making it to the final...all in all just a weird tournament. But yeah, he hasnt shown any kind of dominance in MD, which is why I wouldnt consider him one of the very best just yet. He is however certainly amongst the best in XD.

I was thinking along the same line . as you said doubles, not XD or MD alone, but doubles generally.

Let's hope, to be even more convincing, he starts to achieve as much in MD as in XD going forward. As both his most capable partners have already retired, Zhao Yunlei in XD, and Fu Haifeng in MD, he would've to find suitable and equally good partners respectively.

At the moment, Li Yinhui seems likely to be his choice though she is not quite the same caliber yet as Zhao Yunlei; as for MD, he is still in search mode though Liu Cheng has been pairing up with him more often than others but nowhere as successful as he was with FHF.

As we can see, MD continues to be CHN's weakest link, so much so that Li Yongbo has decided to recall Fu Haifeng back from retirement to do duty with Zhang Nan for the coming Sudirman Cup in May; however, I suspect FHF's supposed comeback is only temporary, just a stopgap measure for the all-important Sudirman Cup.

China are pulling up good women, with quite a few women joining the ranks. Jia Yifan, CQC, Li Yinhui. They aren't ZYL yet, but they're like 18/19 years old, so no worries.
MD's has been pulling a few up good guys up their sleeve too, the new guys are already paired up (Li Junhui, Liu Yuchen, Zheng Siwei). China doesn't really have big hammers who are relatively good in other departments as well (Hong wei, Liu Cheng come to mind).

Right now Zheng Siwei is a front guy. If Zheng Siwei can develop a better smash, then I can see this pair being one of the best. I think it can be done. YYS didn't have a powerful smash before with SBC, but once he was paired with LYD, he developed a far more powerful smash.

Chinese fans bemoan as another one of the Golden Generation bids adieu. Friend Fu Haifeng will be missed says Lin Dan.

I think in the CHN squad, Fu Haifeng is the saddest person today at CHN's loss in the Sudirman Cup Final. It's his swan song and he was hoping to go out with a bang with CHN successfully retaining the Sudirman Cup. In fact, some time ago he promised his son to give him another six months to return to the national team for his final mission before he would quit competitive badminton for good and spend more time with his son thereafter, but , unfortunately, it didn't end up the way he had hoped for. That's life.

By the way, though he's out of the national team after today and will quit international competition, he will actually hang up his racquet only after the China National Games in October.

Yesss, so sad for Fu Haifeng, a supposedly beautiful swan song to play turned into the bitter one, ruined by the women's dept.

Anyhow Fu Haifeng still leaves the int't scenes with untarnished impression, very cool, very mature... another role model player... there are a lot to learn by all the younger players in particular the steel mental strength as displayed by Fu, as well as Lin Dan and other senior teammates.

I certainly will remember Fu Haifeng with the fondest memory for all the years of his engagements in the int'l badminton scenes!

All the best for him... now more time for the family after the China National Games in Oct.
