The third installment of GP Gold circuit began yesterday with qualification stage and men's singles first round, following previous series in Sibu and Lucknow which offered quite less competitive torunament it's also not much different landscape here except Chinese players attendance to upgrade world ranking and absorb experience for youngsters.

On lower-half draw, tougher competition will contain two Chinese back-ups Huang Yuxiang, Zhao Junpeng, Taiwanese Hsu Jen Hao, third seed Tommy Sugiarto and his younger compatriot Anthony Ginting and local hopeful Khosit Phetpradab.

In the absence of defending champion Ratchanok Intanon also Porntip Buranaprasertsuk as well, host Thailand will rely on top-two seeds Busanan Ongbhamrungphan and Nitchaon Jindapol to seek glory at homeground tournament. Their closest rival scenario, 2016 THA GP Gold winner Aya Ohori and Macau Open champion Chen Yufei will be semifinal opponent. China also brings another upcoming players, Zhang Yiman, Chen Xiaoxin, Gao Fangjie to build up new squad towards Tokyo 2020.

Fresh partnerships of Hendra Setiawan-Tan Boon Heong will try luck in Bangkok after produced pretty good result of their debut at IND GP Gold, lost to eventual champion Boe/Mogensen at quarterfinal there in tough contest. The sensational WD combo Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan should be strongest favourite to top podium on Sunday's final, other pairs in the fray are two well-improved local pairs Supajirakul/Taerattanachai and Kititharakul/Prajongjai, Indonesians Awanda/Istirani, China Huang DP/Li YH, the latter managed runner-up in back to back CHN Premier and HKG Superseries last season.

The high reputation double specialist and Olympic Champion Zhang Nan seems has permanent partner, 19 years old Li Yinhui. This Chinese duo picked first title in Macau Open and they should be one of title contender here alongside second seed Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai and recent INA Masters winner Alexander/Oktavianti.

You know, sometimes without seeing your tournament threads I forget there's a tournament going on, in particular the lesser events.

 

Aiya, I missed the Gao Fangjie match earlier on Ct 1.

 

MAS Yap Yee looks good so far, Chen Yufei is struggling to read her game.

 

Yap Yee has potential, still somewhat raw, often good shot selection but wrong execution.

 

Thai pair managed to snatch a game from Huang/Li 21-16, but on verge of losing G2 17-7.

 

Zhang Yiman needs more practice, lacking in accuracy.

Aditya joshi's win against Indonesia's best upcoming player , Jonathan Christie proves the strength of indian MS .
I never ever thought that he will beat much more experienced Jonathan. Aditya is a mediocre player when compared to some of indian juniors like Siril verma(17) and Lakshya sen (15). If he beats Jonathan, I am pretty sure that Indian seniors need to be alert so to protect their quota place for Tokyo 2020.

No doubt, IND has several promising youngsters in MS, not as many in WS, Aditya Joshi beating Jonatan Christie in two straight sets is commendable. Too bad we didn't get to see the match as it's not on livestream.

 

Aditya is actually mediocre but the way he played against PK in PBL he might've made leaps of improvement. a win against much more experienced and established youngster will boost his self-confidence, hope both the Joshi's continue to play well.
Since, Verma brothers withdrew they've the responsibility to handle this event. frankly nobody is expecting much, any result after this match will b bonus.

 

Yeah, these two and Aya Ohori , for me, but on paper Busanan is expected to live up to her top billing and next, Nichaon Jindapon. I'm also on the lookout for Liang Xiaoyu.

And if Gao Fangjie can upset Busanan tomorrow, she's good to go until the semifinals, I think.

 

Busanan is is tough! but if she meets Chen Yufei, i would bet on the chinese )
