Looks like the Malaysians are rapidly filling the void left behind after the mass exodus. Let's hope they keep playing exciting badminton like they have this week.
If you look at their technique, it's totally understandable. I don't know why they aren't doing it properly, but it wouldn't be that difficult to switch to a better technique ...
How true. They knew somehow that the Chinese pair can easily smash that style of serving and yet they kept on repeating it What was their coach doing about that?
Congrats to their deserved win! Focus on winning your first gold in Tokyo 2020 lah. Wanna brag with SSF title aiyah
her mental block during serve is a colossal embarrassment. it also says a lot about the coaches. there is no excuse for an elite world class player to exhibit such ineptitude of a basic stroke. these ?'s come to mind: what % is her fault? what % is the fault of the coaching staff? gabby is one of the sweetest persons you'll ever meet, and the most painful to watch serve.
They are still too up and down for my liking. But, Goh's backhand strokes and his smash - amazing technique.
The first two finals delivered interesting showcase while the remaining three clashes were quite predictable. China bagged two titles through wonder kids, 19 years old Chen Qingchen, Jia Yifan and Zheng Siwei. Double doubles for hugely talented Chen QC, this teenager showed strong spirit to topple current world's best WD, Matsutomo/Takahashi together with her partner Jia YF. The Japanese couldn't cope their fast attacking style and Matsutomo wasn't in fine form yesterday, too many unforced errors than her usual perfect display. China has sigh of relief that finally they find new hope after experiencing grim outlook in this category as Japan slowly take over their supremacy in two major tournaments, All England and Rio Games. Second finals, Viktor Axelsen snatched maiden Superseries title after seven attempts, thanks to his steely determination and succeeded to handle his nerves during the match. The left-handed Tian Houwei slipped his chance after grabbed second game convincingly 21-6 with aggressive mode and continued to decider 11-8 until 16-14 then the nervous Tian lost his self-belief to produce errors at crucial times while Axelsen took the momentum to grab 6 consecutive point, brought him to championships point. Tian saved one but it wasn't enough to stop Rio bronze medalist pocketed top honour. Tai Tzu Ying regained 2014 title with comfortable fashion as Sung Ji Hyun looked fatigue after played long duration semifinal match against Sindhu. Tai once again exhibited superb technical skills that amazed badminton fans with some high quality shots, she's just too strong for her final rival. Similar story for mixed doubles final, Zheng/Chen controlled whole match to frustrate defending champion The Adcocks who couldn't find the answer how to deal with the youngsters. Last match of final day, Malaysian duo Goh/Tan affirm their status as the world number one to maintain consistency and overcame the on-fire Japanese pair Kamura/Sonoda. 2016 will be ended soon, what a surprise year for badminton! All England, Thomas Cup and Rio OG described different turnaround than previous years. All England (March 2016), Nozomi Okuhara became first Japanese WS to top podium after battled hard to eliminate Wang Shixian. Her teammates Matsutomo/Takahashi also did same feat to topple Chinese opponent, Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang. China domination started to fade as they only bagged 1 title through Lin Dan who won 6th AE crown in all China affairs. China bad omen continued to the most prestigious men's team event Thomas Cup. Thomas-Uber Cup (May 2016), Denmark carved new history in Kunshan to become 5th nation to win prestigious men's team event, Thomas Cup, defeated 13th winner Indonesia in final with 3-2. Danish squad scooped three points through their singles stars, Axelsen-Jorgensen-Vittinghus to beat Indonesian weak line-up, Tommy Sugiarto-Anthony Ginting-Ihsan Maulana Mustofa. A big upset happened in this tournament when host China had humiliating defeat 1-3 against Korea in quarterfinal, first time ever for China failed to reach last four stage since their 1982 Thomas Cup participation. Double world champion Chen Long screwed up the plot, once again lost to Son Wan Ho after 2014 Incheon Asian Games Men's Team Final, followed by Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan gave double trouble, lost three games to Korean lethal combination Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong. Next, Lin Dan saved China face to win the only point to dispose Lee Dong Keun but it was only temporary consolation as Korea secure semifinal spot through Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang to beat the scratch combo, Li Junhui/Zheng Siwei. China redeemed their huge disappointment in Uber Cup to be the best women's team in the world of badminton, 14th title, the mighty China knocked out familiar foe Korea, 3-0 in finale. Rio Olympic Games (August 2016), a climax event that created so many histories in Riocentro Pavillion 4. From London 2012 clean-sweep to Rio 2016 two titles, significant declining for China even they failed to win any medal in women's category as Li Xuerui got terrible injury against Carolina Marin at semifinal that caused her to give up in bronze medal match. Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang delivered another misery for China lost to Jung Kyung Eun/Shin Seung Chan in bronze medal clash. The big surprise came from men's double discipline, Fu Haifeng bagged second gold medal paired with his younger partner, Zhang Nan to defeat Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong in thrilling final. Both Carolina Marin and Chen Long coincidentally have same destiny in 2016, only won 1 triumphant but fortunately it's dream title for every professional athlete, Olympic Champion. Spanish sensation Marin defeated India representative P.V. Sindhu in three games while Chen Long knocked out the tired Lee Chong Wei who's physically and mentally drained to eliminate his nemesis Lin Dan in last four. It's writing on the wall for Malaysian hero, three silver medals in three consecutive OG. Ahmad/Natsir restored Indonesian gold tradition in Olympic arena after London 2012 empty-handed. Former World Champion beat arch-rival Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in last four and downed Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying in two straight-games. What's next in 2017? As usual All England will be the first stage for world's best shuttlers to flex their muscles after two months break, followed by two BWF major events, World's Mixed Team Championships Sudirman Cup (May) in Gold Coast-AUS and 23rd World Championships in Glasgow-SCO (August) will be the highlight of 2017.
Don't bother yourself to answer back, it will get deleted. Look at post #255 he mentioned about AFF cup LOL
We even thanked Goh/Tan for beating JPN pair. Goh/Tan's victory has put our very own Gideon/Sukomuljo as world #2 next week. It will be their highest rank. Congrats to this young pair. They fill the shoes of Ahsan/Setiawan quicker than we predicted. Hope they are getting more consistent next year.
Background noise is too loud for the interview. PR manager needs to review arrangements. Edit: I was trying to link the videos of the winners' interviews from BWF facebook but it didn't work.
