    Yesterday's second round saw a big upset, Rio Gold medalists Matsutomo/Takahashi journey were thwarted by local less experienced pair Huang DP/Li YH, high intense encounter that witnessed a drama of disputed line-call at end of second set. World number one took first set, 21-14 then the Chinese youngsters grabbed next two games with identical scoreline, 22-20 / 22-20 in a pulsating 96 minutes of play. The remaining title contenders, Jung KE/Shin SC and Juhl/Pedersen had trouble to pass second round, next the second seed will take on their teammate Chang YN/Lee SH while Danish pair have Japanese underdog Tanaka/Yonemoto.

    In men's singles department, home favourite Chen Long scored convincing victory over future star Shi Yuqi, next the Olympic Champion will up against Ajay Jayaram who knocked out Hong Kong veteran Wei Nan. Two Danish stars, Viktor Axelsen and Jan O Jorgensen also booked two straight-sets winning in last sixteen. Rio bronze medalist Axelsen will be tested by Takuma Ueda who looks on fire how he defeated Tanongsak and Marc Zwiebler at two previous rounds. Jorgensen will set up a meeting with 5th seed Tian Houwei. One more Chinese player in the fray, Qiao Bin has Malaysian hurdle, Iskandar Zulkarnain for a place in semifinal.

    Interesting quarterfinal women's singles plot, not far from scenario, top contender Carolina Marin outplayed Sayaka Sato and will meet TPE skillful player Tai Tzu Ying this evening. Rio silver medalist P.V. Sindhu got second round scare against the well-improved Zhang Beiwen, the tall Indian will see local stumbling block, He Bingjiao, sixth meeting between two players in this year. Japanese prodigy Akane Yamaguchi who needed rubber games to overcome local player Shen Yaying has Korean number one Sung Ji Hyun. One remaining last eight tie will pit the surprising quarterfinalist, Line Kjaersfeldt against Sun Yu.

    Three Danish MD sailed through into last eight, Boe/Mogensen will meet Japanese dangerous duo, Kamura/Sonoda who involved in thrilling match against Huang KX/Wang YL in second round. Their teammates, Astrup/Rasmussen and Conrad/Kolding will see home pairs, Liu C/Zhang N and number one seed Chai B/Hong W. Indonesian hopeful, Gideon/Sukamuljo defeated Rio bronze medalist Ellis/Langridge comfortably yesterday and will take on tricky rival, Hoki/Kobayashi.

    Mixed doubles world number one Ko SH/Kim HN almost bit the dust by high spirited Thailand pair, Phuangphuapet/Kititharakul, won narrowly 21-19 at third game, next the unheralded Watanabe/Higashino who shocked The Adcocks in second round will be their quarterfinal opponent. China has secured one semifinal spot through the new sensational pair Zheng/Chen against Zhang/Li. On bottom half of draw, it's INA-KOR affair, the Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir alongside with current All England winner Jordan/Susanto have complicated test, Yoo/Chang and Choi/Chae respectively. The latter shocked home pair, Lu K/Huang YQ in thrilling duel that ended with 24-22 in deciding game.

    Based on their playing consistency as well as their H2H, I'm leaning more towards JOJ besting THW though. Although I'm silently hoping THW will prove me wrong.
