Li Xuerui is still in recuperating process after knee surgery and Lee Yong Dae announced retirement from international scene in Korea Superseries early this month.

Mixed doubles Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir are back to business after missed last two Superseries tourneys, they may face three Chinese pairs in a road to final four, Huang KX/Li YH then Wang YL/Huang DP and seventh seed Lu K/Huang YQ. World number one Ko SH/Kim HN are expected to clear preliminary rounds and will be pitted against three-time champion Fischer/Pedersen. China young guns who seized the limelight lately, Zheng SW/Chen QC have possible quarterfinal scenario to challenge reigning All England champion Jordan/Susanto at last eight.

Some top-guns of men's singles category will find tricky test at opening round, strong favourite Lee Chong Wei has Wei Nan, the man who shocked him here last year in second round while home favourite Jan O Jorgensen will be tested by China talented newcomer, Shi Yuqi. Both 5th & 6th seed, Chou Tien Chen and Son Wan Ho also face tough hurdle and may be denied to pass first round by Hong Kong veteran Hu Yun and local Thomas Cup hero Hans Kristian Vittinghus respectively.

Both Rio gold and silver medalists resume their action here, Carolina Marin will start her campaign against the qualifier while P.V. Sindhu gets Chinese teen sensation He Bingjiao. Barring any upsets, top-seed Marin is slated to meet Sun Yu in last eight and two Japanese leading WS, Nozomi Okuhara and Akane Yamaguchi will cross sword at other quarterfinal stage. On lower-half of draw, second seed Ratchanok Intanon, Sung Ji Hyun, Tai Tzu Ying or Sindhu will be the favourite to secure last round.ticket.

Home men's doubles pairs will be challenged by Indonesians and Chinese who dominate the draw. Rio gold medalist, Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan have been separated and produced two new experimenting combinations, Fu HF/Xu Chen and Liu Cheng/Zhang N. Indonesia also splits the reigning World Champion, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, paired up with younger partner, Angriawan/Saputro. The Chinese rising stars, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen who cruised into final in back to back Superseries currently will seek another sterling performance here.

Defending champion Jung KE/Shin SC have challenging route, started from early round will take on the reigning World Junior Champion Chen QC/Jia YF and if they pass them, Rio silver medalist and local hero Pedersen/Juhl will wait the Koreans at last eight. Title contender, Matsutomo/Takahashi are expected to overcome newly crowned Dutch Open winner Mapasa/Somerville then may face the in-form Thai pair Kititharakul/Prajongjai next and set up a meeting with either Fukuman/Yonao or Chinese scratch pair Ma Jin/Zhong Qianxin in quarterfinal.

how come CL takes such a long brake? He is still very young, his gold medal is no excuse to be out of the courts for so long. I don't like this mentality, it is disrespect for the circuit

Chen Long is following in the likes of compatriot Lin Dan.I suppose he wants some life outside badminton too.As a lover of good badminton I hope he at least appears in Dubai for the Suoer Series Finals this year.

Noticed that player Hsu Ya Ching a finalist in the Dutch Open last week is entered for three disciplines XD, WS, WD. Very unusual. Probably she is not expected to go far in s super series premier event. She gains valuable match practice.

Because he drives a trailer. :D

On another note, LCW would have retired if he had won the gold medal.

haha! he might even leave black stripes on the court!

Perhaps CL overtrained. He does not appear to me like he will be playing until his thirties

Olympics medallists who are participating in this tournament for the first time after Olympics, will be vulnerable to lesser ranked opponents in the earlier rounds

I have PV Sindhi in mind. Expectations are high in India for this silver medalist. Can she withstand the pressue? Also another silver medalist CPS / GLY has crashed out in the first round. But that was due to an injury to CPS.

Now that TS has pulled out, there is not a single MS or even WS from INA is unheard of.

    ROUND OF 32 (09.00am) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=18030112-393D-4D7C-A368-7BAC59A490EE

Most of XD frontrunners passed first round comfortably including the Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir who outclassed Chinese juniors Huang KX/Li YH. As predicted, The Adcocks also Lu K/Huang YQ had trouble to down their opponents, Polish vast experienced Mateusiak/Zieba and Korean combination Kim GJ/Shin SC. Chinese rising stars, Zheng SW/Chen QC dropped first game before bounced back to eliminate the lower-ranked English pair Nottingham/Westwood.

It's unfortunate day for Rio silver medalist Chan Peng Soon as he twisted left ankle and conceded retired in second game against China new partnership Li Junhui/Bao Yixin, the Star has reported : http://www.thestar.com.my/sport/bad...-soon-liu-ying-first-round-exit-denmark-open/

It's good move by BWF ;)

The young trio will participate French Open next week and none of INA WS there as Superseries level is too tough competition for them.

Can Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan beating GVS/YWK consider an upset?

of coz consider an upset, this is the first time ZN/LC partner , if they are able to beat Goh/tan, this prove that they are still vulnerable , more room to improve ....

what about ajay vs boonsak .. what do you think ?
    lee hyunil vs WTW
