For a moment I thought Prannoy is going to trouble Axelsen again.

    QUARTERFINALS (12.00pm local time, 3 court) => http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...B43E80-2B5D-4B28-9B14-8133B6F6FDA4&d=20160923

    *Quarterfinal Highlights :
    - Son Wan Ho (KOR) v Viktor Axelsen (DEN)
    - Marc Zwiebler (GER) v Srikanth Kidambi (IND)
    - Ratchanok Intanon (THA) v He Bingjiao (CHN)
    - Sun Yu (CHN) v Sayaka Takahashi (JPN)
    - Li JH/Liu YC (CHN) v Boe/Mogensen (DEN)
    - Matsuo/Naito (JPN) v Luo Ying/Luo Yu (CHN)
    - Lu K/Huang YQ (CHN) v Pedersen/Juhl (DEN)

Home strongest contender, Matsutomo/Takahashi also Nozomi Okuhara as well march on to last eight, host Japan weakest link should be men's singles and mixed doubles department as they have no representatives tomorrow.

The unstoppable Lee Chong Wei will take on China upcoming player Shi Yuqi after he powered past another Chinese back-up Qiao Bin at last sixteen, it's rare chance for young player to gain valuable experience against one of best men's singles player. The resurgent Indian player Srikanth Kidambi has the fighter veteran Marc Zwiebler, bottom half of draw will see two Danish aces Jorgensen will meet giant-killer, Thai qualifier Khosit Phetpradab while his younger teammate Viktor Axelsen gets familiar foe, Son Wan Ho, this tie should be the most unpredictable clash but Axelsen has slight advantage to progress considering his current fine form.

Okuhara once again must challenge his younger compatriot Akane Yamaguchi after Rio Olympic Games quarterfinal, it's tough chance for former champion Yamaguchi to score first winning over her older compatriot as 6-0 head to head statistics favour to Rio bronze medalist. Another interesting encounter will pit He Bingjiao against the skillful Ratchanok Intanon. Japan has secured 1 semifinal berth, US Open GP Gold champion Ayumi Mine v Aya Ohori. One more local player Sayaka Takahashi, former world #11 will face the tall Chinese, Sun Yu.

Ahsan/Setiawan still show unconvincing performance, defeated TPE Chen HL/Wang CL in rubber games, their next opponent, Chinese young duo Huang KX/Wang YL who surprised Rio silver medalist Goh VS/Tan WK, 23-21 / 21-12. Another favourite, Boe/Mogensen were troubled by home pair Hoki/Kobayashi and next will be tested by former world junior champion Li JH/Liu YC. On the opposite of draw, 1 semifinal ticket goes to home pair while Korean scratch pair Kim GJ/Ko SH will face Taiwanese combination Lee/Lee.

Thailand women's doubles indicate well improvement recently as their two combos manage last eight spot, let's see whether they will trouble Japan domination in this category. On bottom half, the clashes are going to the script, Matsuo/Naito v Luo twin sisters and Danish Pedersen/Juhl are favoured to win over Malaysian Vivian Hoo/Woon KW.

Current world number one Ko SH/Kim HN have bright prospect to advance into semifinal and most likely will face Malaysian Chan PS/Goh LY. Last year winner Pedersen/Juhl have China challenger, Lu K/Huang YQ. One remaining quarterfinal match will pit Chinese future star Zheng SW/Chen QC to meet Thailand Dechapol/Taerattanachai.

    LIVE TV (Court 1, 12.00pm) matches :
    1) Kim Gi Jung/Shin Seung Chan (KOR) v Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying (MAS)
    2) Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen (CHN) v Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN)
    3) Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (JPN) v Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai (THA)
    4) Son Wan Ho (KOR) v Viktor Axelsen (DEN)

If Hendra/Ahsan can win this JPN open, it would be a miracle.

Sayaka Takahashi really has the worst demeanour in the japanese team...Looks like a spoiled child.. Not missing her on the tour after she was booted out the Japanese A team..

Axelsen seems buoyed by his Olympic bronze and is in a winning mood here so far.

Meanwhile, Christ/Kamill (that's the name given on Livestream.com) is doing fine in G3 on the adjacent court.
