hope there will be split up that Tan Kian Meng replacing Chan Peng Soon to partner Goh Liu Ying because Tan Kian Meng's serve is better than Chan Peng Soon...
OK, now since OG is finally finished, have time to do some This is translation of part 1 of Astro intv. It's stated part on youtube but it's actually part 1 - on badminton GLY: During the finals I dare not think what happens if I win or lose. I have to very focused on my game. Think step by step and the right tactics to fight our opponent CPS : The game just now(finals) have a bit of pressure. Even though our target achieved, we managed to enter finals. Of course in the heart have the wish to win. When think want to win, it can make the heart shaken a bit Q: The most nervous, pressured match CPS : Nervous and pressure different feel. Semi final is excited. Semifinal if can go into final is excited. Like from semi, whether can go or cannot go final. GLY: QF, everybody said we got a good draw. Before QF, that night I cannot sleep. Actually start from QF, I cannot sleep until today The most pressure for me was QF. The night before 10 pm was the draw. I wanted to have good rest and be fresh. After found out the draw, vs Poland, the moment i close my eyes, keep thinking how to face(play) the opponent the next day. CPS : Same also. Q: So in London OG also you cannot sleep? GLY : Yes Q: Yesterday could sleep? GLY : Errr, ok CPS : From reach here until now, sleep wake up, sleep wake up. Cannot sleep till morning Q: Describe the experience from Group to final GLY : We never thought we are reach finals. Our first target was reach QF. Once we see the opponent is Polish pair , we can see another chance there. ANd we make it to Semi. We know our SF opponent is Xu Chan/Ma JIn. They are very tough opponent. DOnt think a lot. Face them and do our best CPS : more or less the same. step by step we go Q : Before OG, only one name being said , Datuk LCW. No pressure, media also did not 'disturb" both of you. Was that good for both of you , no pressure, compared to LCW. GLY: Yes, everyone look at LCW. All pressure to him, i see also he also difficult The whole Msia hope on him, he(LCW) can still do well CPS: Thanks to media did not disturb us. TOld them let us prepare this OG. They also accept did not disturb us. Q : Performance during semi(vs Xu Chen/Ma Jin) both matured, cool. How was your feeling GLY : Did not think that have to enter final. Before the game we analyse the game. We know they are tough opponent, they defeat us lots of time. CPS: THe pressure not on us. We play point to point, pressure less. Can see they more pressure than us. If lose , play 3/4 more down. Look cool but the heart is pounding. Q: Anyone give advise before matches. Anyone you call GLY : Family. My father very supportive, say doesnt matter you win lose, we will still with you CPS: Of ten message my wife and family. They always support Q : Who do you want thank for your career GLY : Thanks to my father. He is badminton fan. When young, watch Cheah soon kit matchon tv, we cheer for Msia. Now I as his child , play in front of tv CPS : Many people to thank, all family-parents and siblings, wife. Never a word that said "You cannot' , always support me "You can , you can" Now finished , get silver, I feel this medal can share with them(family)
Nice. Can't sleep the night before match. That can't be good, wonder how many other players have the same problem. In a way it's good that LCW didn't win today, otherwise they and their MD's silver medals will be just a non-event.
4 silvers in total is not too bad though, 2 silvers in MD and XD which were not expected. And silver in diving. Only misstep was LCW getting silver instead of gold.
Part 2 of interview with Astro : Both of you have been partnering for some time(few years). What makes your team work good ? CPS : Start from arguing first. There will be differences in thinking. I think play this way better, she think play another way better. So it turns into arguement. After arguement then only can be better. If keep in heart, hard to improve. We discuss, lets try this way GLY : We have to work a lot on our communication and discussion NOrmally, as woman, I think a lot(Invr: You think too much?)> Yeah can say that. With him, our idea not the same. If cannot settle, we look for coach. So 3 of us sit down discuss, find better way Q: Happen before on court argue? CPS: Should be. I remember Swiss Open. We play not ngam(compatible). At that time younger, I talk more straight forward "Why you play like this?" Maybe woman cannot take it, she cried. (Did you persuade her?) No, haha. It's about the way the game was played, we need to discuss, persuade also no use. Q: How long did it take for both of you to be solid pair? GLY : Till now we still discuss. Cannot settle finish. If we play this way, people will have way to fight us back. Now we are more matured, the way we discuss more matured. Q: CPS, as husband and father, hard for you to divide your time CPS: THis, I need to thank my wife. Family matters, she handle all. I dont worry focus on Olympics. Can see it's hard for her, cos need to take care 2 children. This I know cos even when 2 person, I'm at home help take care of the children together already not free. Cannot imagine how she has to do it by herself. So, go back need to show more love to her. Q: GLY, biggest problem for you is the knee injury. You came back in 2015(Surgery 2014, re appear in tournament 2015 ). Have you ever thought your Olympic dream will end ? GLY : I didnt think like that. I could still play but only 60% to 70%. I was thinking if I in this condition play in RIo OG, I will not satisfied with the result. So, my condition already bad, I was thinking with surgery, there was chance to recover even better. So just for this OG, I go for surgery, just try lah Q:CPS, during GLY's surgery and recovery, you partnered Lai PJ. You continued giving support to GLY or you thought maybe have to change partner? CPS : During this time, I little bit angry. Cos she told me too last minute. One week before surgery only she told me. I was shocked. SHe said she already plan everything, schedule with the doctors. We havent really sit down discuss. But in the end most important is the medal(chase for the medal) Q: What both of you sacrificed for this silver medal ? GLY : I planned to go surgery was after Commonwealth Games 2014. We needed to prepare Asia Games, Commonwealth Games and the next year is OG(qualifying). I tried training but cannot. So I decided I have to go for surgery now, if not cannot recover in time for OG. That time have to sacrifice Asia and Commonwealth Games CPS : Not really, I train myself. That time I partnered Lai PJ. Then not really match the combination. After GLY operation, I discuss with coach I wait for GLY to come back. After she operation 5 to 6 months, she come back train GLY : After I operation 6 months only can training on court, not competition yet. Q: Fans support. There was more INdonesia fans than Msia fans during the finals. How is the support for both of you CPS: I think Msia fans dont lose to Indonesia. They very best, from QF, Semi. Even though just now (finals) we lost, they keep support us Q : GLY, you fashionable, hair colour last time purple now blue. Media said you fashion star, what you think of your new label. GLY :Normally as sportwoman, when play sports is rough. THe movement everything is not very ladylike. So, normally I dont cut my hair, so look more ladylike. Q: Fav badminton player, idol. GLY: LCW CPS: KKK, very strong fighter when young. Aggressive Q : Upcoming XD pairs GLY : Lai PJ/Tan KM, they perform well. THey just won Vietnam Open. Quite happy for them and mixed doubles Q :Morten Frost coming here any effect on your achievement here? CPS: Most important all coaches work together, discuss together. From 1st match we go in, the coaches Jeremy Gan & Chin EH with us. Not such thing as you Xd coach, I WD coach. Teamwork together Q: Feeling while standing on podium GLY: For me, the first thing is still cannot believe. 2nd, I so happy. Nothing can describe the feeling CPS: Same also. Last time dreaming to be World Champion. Now OG silver medal, like in a dream, did not think can get into finals Q :Message for GVS/TWK, LCW before their matches(Interview was done after XD Finals) GLY : THey are more senior than me. I hope they can play their best. Bring back different colour medal. Unfortunately we cannot make it, we hope our team mates can make it. CPS: Ya, different colour not bronze, gold.

Malaysian Olympic badminton silver medalist & model used to be 'tomboy' Photo: Facebook/ Goh Liu Ying SEPANG - Silver medallist Goh Liu Ying is a knockout as seen in her off-the-court photographs but her brothers remember a more rambunctious side of her growing up. Her younger brothers, both working in the IT business, recalled childhood days of playing badminton for hours on end. And also losing terribly to their sister. "Our mother always wanted us to play. But we couldn't beat her and by the time she was 13, she entered the Bukit Jalil Sports School. We didn't have a chance against her after that," said Goh Qi Hao, 23. Qi Hao and another brother Goh Qi Liang, 25, brought huge bouquets for their 27-year-old big sister at the Bunga Raya Complex yesterday. The entire family was there, too, including Liu Ying's wheelchair-bound 86-year-old grandfather who had not been to Kuala Lumpur for over three decades. "We are all so proud of her. We never expected her to achieve so much," said Qi Liang, who is still coming to grips with the fact that his sister was now a national celebrity. "I mean, when she was 12 or 13, she had short hair, not like now. Maybe you could consider her a tomboy but she still acted like a girl," he said. The brothers said that Liu Ying's feat did not come easy. Their family pulled together to push her into recovering from her knee surgery to winning the silver. "You could see she was very fed up. It was so difficult for her. But we just kept motivating her to keep fighting, step by step. "Tonight, we are going to celebrate with a big dinner," Qi Hao said. The brothers also thanked Liu Ying's partner Chan Peng Soon, whom they considered a close family friend, for "taking care" of her in Rio. "They are like brother and sister," Qi Liang said. Liu Ying's father Goh Chak Whee said the fact that his daughter had taken part in the Games was enough to make the family proud. The medal was merely icing on the cake. "We never expected her to win. Her physical frame is not like other athletes, so we never expected her to do so well. We are very proud," he said. http://news.asiaone.com/news/malays...adminton-silver-medalist-model-used-be-tomboy

A good ROI for Daikin. First time sponsoring badminton and they get an Olympic medal and have a model for their marketing.
Interview with Goh Liu Ying, by radio station 988 Note interview is in Mandarin Interview BEFORE OG Perhaps someone can give longer summary, my mandarin aint good 1) Entered at age 13 to BJSS. Interest in badminton developed by her father who hoped she could be national player. She said at the time never thought want to be national player, got selected. 2) Schedule at BJSS regimented. From 6.30 am to 10 pm fixed School, training , tuition, sleep. 3) She said she wasnt the best but due to lack of female players, the coaches kept her at BJSS. Specialised in doubles at Form 4(age 16) 4) Mixed doubles - was not developed. Just take a MD and WD player , mix match. She & CPS are the 1st specialised XD pair for Msia. What do you intend to do after badminton/retirement? 1) After retiring after 30, what can we do? Studies? If no work experience, who will hire us? At the moment, thinking of be coach. I like to travel the world, so maybe then I will go each country visit. 2) Acting/modeling is another option. 2015(during knee surgery rehab) took modeling course at Amber Chia academy. Parents and bf did not object, they just wondered 'why you want do that?' 1) Nickname : Milk (Guleng in hokkien) cos when she was young like to drink milk 2) Satisfied with current results? Yes 3) If you can win a medal but the price to is your leg/knee get worse till have to retire, will you still do it? Yes 4) Every time after training or matches need pysio, creams. If tournament sometimes need to take pain killer Knee Operation 1) Most severe injury : 2006 Uber Cup, injured. Doc said not too serious, can choose to have surgery or not. She chose not to, very afraid, was only 19. Delay2 till 8 years later. 2) Seniors and partner commented "wait after surgery cannot recover back the condition(have to retire). What about after OG only have surgery, since already so many years delay" 3) Parents and family :"Knees is yours for a lifetime. You dont take care of it now, later more serious only take care, even worse" Decision to have the surgery was for OG
Interview 33:30 to 51:45 is listener comments Around 52 min onwards 1) AFTER surgery worried about what :???(err like I said, my mandarin so so) 2) Off court with CPS : Friends only, eat meals together 3) On court , you feel CPS is your best partner ? Yes 4) On court I have my way of thinking, even coach hard to convince me otherwise. Coach will discuss 5) CPS: He also have his own opinion. Coach is middle person. DIfference opinion, coach will settle, use CPS way or my way first. Then adjust. Or combine both our ways 6) Ever thought of changing partner ? After loss? Change partner for CPS is when I was injured. No, never thought of changing partner. After losing, improve on weakness. Both of you have cold war before ? Just talk few words go back own room. Training, just train, or train by ourself. But dont last long, we just want to play better 7) Serve problems of CPS, have both of you discuss? I didnt dicuss with him but coach should have. CPS already did his very best, I very satisfied our effort(finals) 8) Areas you can do to help CPS in this ? Only moral support, encourage him. On court, he cover me, so I can play my best. Maybe people see his service errors but dont see his strengths. 9) Negative comments? There are comments which said we are rubbish. Personal 1)Boyfriend. Ong Jian Guo. After shoulder surgery, he chose to leave BAM 2) Now independent player now more freedom for Ong? I see more difficult, cos everything have to ownself arrange 3) Both of you from Melaka, how it effect? Maybe cos we go back hometown, sometimes same transport/car. I.e. hitch a ride in each other parent's car. 4) He did not talk much? At BJSS no other girls like Ong? I think I was closest to him, he talk most with me compared to other girls. Now? He will give opinion what should be done and not done. He give me a lot encouragement in badminton. Like surgery, should do or not . After badminton do what. 5) What you like about Ong JG? Handsome? Yes, handsome, haha. Character. I like freedom, dont like others control me. He doesnt lose temper easily, I feel comfortable. Little details like: he know I want to use the car, he will fill up the petrol. Reload my touch and go card. Then fold my clothes , separate the competition clothes and casual clothes. 6) Marriage? OG just few months only. After that? Not yet, now focus on OG. I not suited for early marriage. There was a sifu(fortune teller) said before 7) Why wear braces? Want to look pretty 8) What business you want to do? Casual T shirt sell online, own design to sell
