There are players from China comprising juniors and seniors as well. Could they be from a provincial team. Kang Jun and Zhang sijie I am familiar with. Always felt Kang Jun's doubles play was more "indonesian" than Chinese, or S.E.Asian style. Hope they can progress further.
BWF should start to obligate a GP or higher tournament to have live score, as a mandatory requirement. I remember last year, this tournament has no live score either.
Agree with you. Last year I rang the administrator of the tournament. She said they had no budget. Its a shame there are so many interesting matches.
I think VIE Open is the only GP tournament in BWF Calendar that doesn't have Live Score facility List of 2016 BWF GP tournaments : 1) Canada Open -- completed 2) Vietnam Open -- ongoing 3) Brazil Open - 30th August to 4th September 4) Russian Open - 4th to 9th October 5) Chinese Taipei Masters - 11th-16th October 6) Dutch Open - 11th to 16th October 7) Scottish Open - 23rd to 27th November
MS first round found big upset, third seed Wei Nan was shown the exit door by 2015 World Junior bronze medalist Koki Watanabe. Home favourite and former champion Nguyen Tien Minh couldn't finish the match, retired at deciding game against Indian youngster Siril Verma.
Wei Nan, what an upset. Either he underestimated his young opponent or he wasn't really into the game. But as he's not going to Rio, I don't see why. Maybe Koki Watanabe played very well, but just last week he lost to Sun Feixiang in the mixed team event and Lakshya Sen in the individual event of the AJC.
Those few players from CHN seemed to be from a certain province, Kang Jun , if I'm not wrong, is no longer in the national team. Of late CHN is allowing their provincial level players to take part in international BWF tier 3 tournaments. Good to see, but why not their national juniors who need as much exposure?
Agree with you Justin. Koki is a good example. He has accumulated experience from playing overseas. I don't understand why they can't see the benefits of having different teams that can go around the world playing in tournaments. At least those countries can benefit from playing against Chinese opponents. It also builds up China's soft power. Its so short sighted to say the least.
Like Wei Nan's exit, here's another very surprising result from Round 2: Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito defeated Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-14, 14-21, 21-17
INA MS players dominate top-half of draw, have booked three quarterfinal spots. Pelatnas player Firman Abdul Kholik v Evert Sukamta who knocked out TPE rising talent Wang Tzu Wei in last sixteen while Shesar Hiren Rhustavito will take on 11th seed Chong Wei Feng, the Malaysian disposed giant-killer Koki Watanabe to cruise into last eight. On lower half draw, 2011 World Junior Champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli has tough opponent, Vincent Wong Wing Ki.
Four Indonesian mixed doubles pairs will face each other, two semis have been guaranteed through this category, Faisal/Aulia and Malaysian Tan KM/Lai PJ should be the frontrunners and barring any upsets they will cross sword tomorrow. Home hopeful Vu Thi Trang will feature in two disciplines today, WS and later on WD. It's pretty healthy draw for women's singles department, only TPE has two representatives here, top-seed Hsu Ya Ching and Chiang Mei Hui, the remaining quarterfinalists represent six different nations.
You are right. There is no live scores at all for this tournament. Both Faisal/Aulia and Malaysian Tan Kian Meng / Lai Pei Jing will cross sword tomorrow. Vu Thi Trang played the first set of the match lose 10-21 to Sonia then second set retired don't know why. I guess She is injured. Vu Thi Trang also withdraw from her WD match.
Don't know why but the great Indonesian MD Markis Kido / Hendra have lost their match yesterday in the second round. What a pity. I was thinking they may be able to reach the finals.
