World Number 1 Japanese WD pair of Takahashi/Matsutomo will face reigning World Champions Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei. The Japanese pair is in superior form whereas Chinese pair is struggling in every match due to the lost of respect & trust for each other. Then the Indonesian XD pair of Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir will battle it out against the Dark horses Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na who were given 'a black eye' in their QF encounter against the Chinese Pair. Expect a sound thrashing of the Koreans this time. Time for the 'Singles' lovers as Japanese wondergirl Akane Yamaguchi will test out her skills against the aesthetically pleasing Ratchanok Intanon who is in the form of her life after back to back SS & SSP titles. Expect Intanon to secure another convincing victory. Back to Doubles, and we have Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong, the favourites to win Olympic Gold this year against China's leading MD pair of Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan.Their recent matches have been totally one-sided affair and thus the intelligent fans should expect the irrepressible Koreans to wipe the floor with the Chinese duo tomorrow. At last,we have,Lin Dan vs Indonesia Part IV. A repeat of 2007 World Championships Final will see The Evergreen Chinese, face to face against the Qualifier,Soni Dwi Kuncoro. Old memories will be refreshed when these two will put on a show supported by the voice of Gillian Clarke. Who will win? Well, you decide.
Yup - and I was there, as well as a few other BCers (including our resident worrld champion-wooer @Loh). Sony forced deuce in the 2nd game but it was not to be ......
Do we even need a poll on Lin Dan vs Sony D K ? If there are stakes involved, then we'll see the real poll, not wishful thinking.
don't abuse the poll. it was turned off before because people are abusing it. if you abuse it, it will be turned off again.
and frankly, these daily tournament thread isn't the appropriate place to tag on a poll. there are dozens of matches everyday and many other important ones too. and LD vs Sony is hardly a nail biter. so let's try to keep these threads clean in the future.
Is Ng Ka Long Angus the only player to have positive H2H against both Lin Dan and Chen Long? Edit: H2H is 1-1 between him and CL
He's 1-0 against LD, but he's 1-1 against CL. Strong era. LD will be hoping to make it 1-1 in the final.
I will be there for the first two hours today. After that, gonna rush to my school. See you guys! Will try my best to get some interesting stories of the players behind the scene.
Was sitting in front of Xu Chen for the duration of the Ahsan/Setiawan match. He was talking to a friend(member of Chinese team??) and commented on the ridiculous height of the young Chinese pair, comparing them to "that European pair" (Mads X2 / Ivanov and Sozonov?). Pretty interesting comments he made including how they would set up the net game and put away the smash with deadly efficiency. Wasn't able to pluck up the courage to talk to him though.
Three reigning world champions were shown the exit door by their opponents yesterday, Carolina Marin, Chen Long and Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan. Badminton fans witnessed two inspiring fighting spirit of MS quarterfinal ties, the first one was Hong Kong promising talent Angus Ng Ka Long who trailed behind 3-11 then 7-14 before gained crucial momentum and scored victory, 21-18 against two-time World Champion Chen Long. The losing of world number one is quite predictable since this lanky Chinese also battled hard earlier, even almost swallowed bitter pill at first round here, the unconvincing signal priors to upcoming Thomas Cup Finals. Angus Ng will take on Son Wan Ho who edged past 6th seed Tian Houwei yesterday. Another brilliant comeback also displayed by two-time Olympic Champion Lin Dan against Tommy Sugiarto, from 4-11 to 21-18. Next, he will face old rival, 2010 champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro, 4th Indonesian player in his SIN Superseries title campaign. Kuncoro won twice of 11 meeting, first (2003) and last one (2012), the Indonesian qualifier thwarted Wang Zhengming in three games last night. Four China MS made into last eight but only one prevailed, once again Lin Dan is the last man standing to keep China chance alive in this category. 2013 World Champion Ratchanok Intanon is one step closer to create a final hat-trick in Superseries tournament, this talented Thai is suddenly wake up and back to her best form. She overcame teammmate Porntip in last eight and will up against Japanese starlet Akane Yamaguchi who knocked out top-seed Carolina Marin in rubber games. It's all China affairs at bottom half of draw, defending champion Sun Yu will take on her younger compatriot He Bingjiao. Both of these two semifinalists have defeated top names en route to semifinal, Sun stunned Okuhara, Sung JH while the teenager He surprised Tai TY and Sindhu. Lee YD/Yoo YS eliminated last year winner Pratama/Suwardi to set up a clash with China number one Fu HF/Zhang N who downed INA young duo Gideon/Fernaldi in last eight, this should be interesting encounter and warming up of possible Thomas Cup meeting. The other semifinal tie will pit two unseeded pairs, Kamura/Sonoda v Li JH/Liu YC, both combinations have denied more favoured names. The Japanese defeated Kim GJ/Kim SR at first round and destroyed world number 5 Chai B/Hong W yesterday, similar story with former world junior champion who toppled Endo/Hayakawa and Indonesian number one Ahsan/Setiawan in last two rounds. Women's doubles semifinal is going to the scenario, top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi will meet 4th seed Tian Q/Zhao YL while second seed Maheswari/Polii will be challenged by 3rd seed Jung KE/Shin SC. The newest All England Champion is favoured to tackle the Olympic champion considering their performance lately. A rematch of last week MAS Premier semifinal will happen today, 2014 Asian Games gold medalists have chance to take revenge over Korean leading combination. Jung/Shin experienced gruelling matches in last sixteen and quarterfinal against Huang/Tang and Fukuman/Yonao respectively. A close contest is expected for TV court mixed doubles match between Ahmad/Natsir v Ko SH/Kim HN. The revived Indonesian pair look on top to book another final after MAS Premier title last Sunday, Ko/Kim had big trouble to overcome Chinese lower-ranked combination Liu YC/Tang JH before sealed the match that ended 24-22. Two Chinese pairs will face off at lower-half of draw, the vast experienced Xu C/MA J who disposed current All England champion Jordan/Susanto at quarterfinal will face their juniors, SUI Open winner Wang YL/Chen QC. LIVE TV (Court 1, 02.00pm local time) matches : 1) Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (JPN) v Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei (CHN) 2) Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir (INA) v Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na (KOR) 3) Akane Yamaguchi (JPN) v Ratchanok Intanon (THA) 4) Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (KOR) v Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan (CHN) 5) Sony Dwi Kuncoro (INA) v Lin Dan (CHN)
It's unbelievable how many times Lin Dan has came back from 2-11,3-11 and 4-11 scorelines to win the set. Who can forget the epic 13-20 comeback against Hu Yun in Asian Games.
Yes, that 13-20 comeback were set points, not match points. What will be more memorable for him is LCW's come back from 13-20 match points in the final of Malaysia Open 2006.
