Expect a star-studded cast from all the Asian countries/ member associations, not only China, for the final leg of the Rio Olympic qualification cycle, the more so as the Badminton Asia Championships have been revamped and elevated to BWF Superseries level.

Will this be counted in the rankings? Also, can the ranking points of both this, and Sudirman Cup be included?

The tournament in Wuhan, to which this thread refers, is an individual event and so there is no conflict with the Sudirman Cup. On the other hand, the Badminton Asia Team Championships, which were held last month in Hyderabad, was an either/or thing. So players like Matsutomo/Takahashi now - and at the Rio qualification deadline - will have rankings that include Sudirman points, as you can see from the * beside 8749, while players such as Endo/Hayakawa are counting their Hyderabad points instead. The Wuhan event result will count if it is higher than other non-team event results.

It seems they have Group Stage for MS, WS and MD. But no Group Stage for WD and XD.

    Kinda interesting...

The draw I think will be next Tuesday 12 April.

Very Interesting. I thought a draw should be made 14 days before the start of the event. Why are they doing it 21 days beforehand?

    DRAW (Excel format) : http://badmintonasia.org/upload/Dong-Feng-Citroen-Badminton-Asia-Championships-2016_Draws-Report.XLS

Top-seed Chen Long is drawn with Tommy Sugiarto, Kento Momota and Tian Houwei while reigning Asian Champion Lin Dan once again is slated to meet his familiar rival at last four, Lee Chong Wei and two remaining seeded players, Srikanth Kidambi-Chou Tien Chen join the same half of draw with these two prominent names.

China number one WS, Li Xuerui will face tough test in first two rounds, Porntip and Yamaguchi then she should meet Tai Tzu Ying at last eight, next either Ratchanok Intanon or Sung Ji Hyun will be her potential semifinal opponent. Two Wangs, Shixian and Yihan occupy lower half of draw alongside with Saina Nehwal and second seed Nozomi Okuhara.

The Korean man standing behind Hendra Setiawan is the women's singles coach Park Tae Sang. If I were him, I'd feel pretty good to be mistaken for a player 16 years his junior though ;)

    Thanks,kwun, for posting the video.

Just curious, what about the computer software used to conduct the random drawing of lots? Is it certified safe and secure so that nobody can tamper with it ? Hope my queries aren't inappropriate.

no idea. i wonder about that too. while not likely but computer software has a certain level of opaqueness to it.

when we used to do drawing back in school using spreadsheet, we would show everyone the code to ensure transparency.

btw, the official in the video is our own @huangkwokhau

    I added a poll.

I think China will win four gold medals this year: MS, WS, WD and XD.

    MD is a bit dicey.

An extra week of rote training time is always helpful. Bwf should do closer to tennis standard, one week, which would be dreadful because it s insufficient for rote training. Affects one country only, though. Other teams don't have such resources.
