No real challenges to them either this round (LD vs Sho Sasaki, CL vs Xue Song), based on their form yesterday... LD was literally playing around with his new racket in game 2, trying to see how sloppy he can get with it (& still get away with it)-- too bad for Lee Dong Keun, but it was the funniest game I've seen in ages.
the real test for lin dan is jorgenson tomorrow, Chen long vs viktor / son will be interesting , however viktor and son are not on top form. so I think CL will still make it through .. where as if lin dan doesn't play properly , jorgenson may take advantage... Jorgenson always play his best against LD
Indian Doubles exit was expected and are clearly a level below other teams. HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu's losses were embarrassing. I had said in the German GPG that Sindhu was too erratic against Michelle Li and Shixian Wang and if she played like that she wouldn't cross the second round, she lost in round 1. She clearly needs a break and time to relax. Saina Nehwal is returning after a long break so she will be rusty and an early exit will not be a surprise. She played well against Michelle Li winning 21-17, 21-12. Srikanth Kidambi was erratic in game 1. He played much better in game 2. He needs to tighten up and focus on winning matches in 2 games or face an exit. Sameer Verma is a breath of fresh air and a treat to watch. He rose to the big occasion and displayed nerves of steel. The way he dismantled Hu Yun was surprising, even Srikanth struggles with Hu Yun. B.Praneeth is a gifted player who has underachieved because of mental blocks. He played well and stunned Lee Chong Wei. A great effort and I hope this is a turning point in his career. He lost his place to Srikanth in the A team and was demoted to the B team last year. This year he is back in the A team after playing well in lower level tournaments. He is working with a mental trainer and this will be his first success story! Indian MS are dangerous and highly unpredictable. They can beat anyone and lose to anyone. All three may win or exit. An Indian player might make the final, that would be a fairytale ending for a minnow team!
Woke up to shock with the news of Dato Lee losing out in 2 straight games to B.Praneeth, kudos to the latter. Very unfortunate for Dato Lee but ultimately his goal for the year is still - the elusive Gold Medal from Rio OG. Now that he is out of the tourney tho, the bottom half of the draw is wide open and thus K.Momota is the favourite to make the finals now if he were to get pass K.Srikanth in today's match. Let's not forget Tommy Sugiarto who dump last week's German Open finalist Chou Tien Chen in symmetrical scorelines , 21-14. Playing so many rubber games over the course of last week have definitely taken a toll on him. Pity since I really enjoy watching him play. For the MS category now in general, I'll bet my money on the winner emerging from the top half of the draw - yep you guessed it; it'll be either Chen Long/Lin Dan. Koo/Tan and Goh/Tan proceeding to R16 with a possible clash in QF . However, they face strong opponents today, Ahsan/Hendra and Chai/Hong respectively. Chances of a double joy is slim and even then I wouldn't be too hopeful for any of them to win today's matches (eventhough Goh/Tan won over their opponents to-be today in the R16 of last week's tourney too- they're still very inconsistent).
don't think both MAS pair will win against their opponents tonight, the Malaysia players' campaign ends here...
Any idea if there will be any official livestreams today? Formatting from TS seems to suggest so as there are 5 matches in group 1, separated from the rest, placed all the way on the top (usually how they indicate they will be TV court matches). Will be a 'lil disappointing if that's the case, the lineup is just pure dull with the exception of probably the 1st WS and MS. Thoughts?
“This is a big shock to me. I am very happy. I have been waiting for a big result like this. I got more confident when I levelled the score 15-15 in the first game and I just kept playing my shots,” said the 23-year-old Sai beaming proudly. “This is totally unexpected for me. I came here to win,” said 33-year-old Lee. “Praneeth has improved a lot since we played in the Canada Open last year. I think he has a great future.”
I still can't believe Sai Praneeth managed to beat LCW. At superseries level, no other Indian has ever beaten LCW. Not Srikanth, Not Ajay, Not HSP, not Kashyap - no one. I guess Sai showed why he is the national champ.
After the exclusive match yesterday, which sent LCW packing, the tourney; MS to be more precise will get even more intriguing! The bottom half is wide open! CTC who stole the limelight last week isn't alive in the tourney too! Which makes almost everyone almost equal! None of them are in great form, none of them are consistent or predictable for that matter! KS vs KM is the match of the day, BSP vs HKV TM vs MZ And Sameer vs THW are all close matches! Even in the top half SWH vs VA, Ng vs JOJ are interesting too MS atleast in this tourney has left WS way behind
yes SAI did grt job against LCW......But LCW was not at his best form because he had some fever before coming to AE.....also he doesnt need to defend some points at here.....so nothing much worry. He ll be back with bang in Swiss open....
