Nehwal bounced back to down World Champion

Second day of group stage matches witnessed reigning world champion Carolina Marin lost three games to arch-rival Saina Nehwal, this fact made group A competition becames complicated. Japanese rookie Nozomi Okuhara booked her second win in group matches yesterday and she will take on Marin next while Nehwal opens semifinal chance to face defending champion Tai Tzu Ying. Two victories delivered Wang Yihan tops Group B and she will face last year beaten finalist, Sung Ji Hyun. Former champion Wang Shixian will play do or die match against Ratchanok Intanon today.

Women's doubles exciting clash will pit Maheswari/Polii oppose European champion Pedersen/Juhl. The Indonesian hopeful tops group B after defeated reigning Olympic and World Champion Tian/Zhao yesterday in marathon 90 minutes battle. The Chinese ace is favoured to overcome Netherlands pair, Muskens/Piek tonight. Title-holder Matsutomo/Takahashi and top-seed Luo Ying/Luo Yu have guaranteed their places in knock-out stage as they won twice over other two contestants in group A, Fukuman/Yonao and Chae/Kim.

It's going to the script in men's singles category, nothing upsets to deny pre-tournament favourites toward their semifinal mission. Two-time World Champion Chen Long will face Danish number one Jan O Jorgensen to determine winner-runner up position in group A as both Hu Yun and Tian Houwei suffered losing twice and no chance to progress. Same story is described for group B, Viktor Axelsen will meet second seed Kento Momota while Chou Tien Chen and K.Srikanth will face off to avoid last position in their group.

The formidable Lee/Yoo prove their quality to be group A winner, a must win situation for both Fu/Zhang and Ahsan/Setiawan to determine who will accompany top-seed in last four as they only won once against Endo/Hayakawa. Title contender Boe/Mogensen and last year runner-up Chai/Hong ensure their semifinal spot after completed two triumphants over Conrad/Kolding and Kim/Kim in close contest.

Big applause for Hong Kong Lee/Chau who knocked out two high calibre opponents convincingly, Zhang/Zhao and Ahmad/Natsir in two consecutive days. The world number one, Zhang/Zhao still have opportunity to progress as they won over English pair Adcock/Adcock yesterday and will challenge Ahmad/Natsir who displayed lacklustre performance at two previous matches here. The well-improved Ko/Kim won their second tie narrowly yesterday and top group B, last match will be very important for both Jordan/Susanto and Liu/Bao to decide their journey in this event.

    1) Carolina Marin (ESP) v Nozomi Okuhara (JPN)
    2) Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN) v Chai Biao/Hong Wei (CHN)

Does anyone one knows how it goes, is it group a winner vs group b runners up? Or they have to re-draw again which means they might play back the same runners up in their group?

Correct, it means the winner of each group may meet same opponent once again after group-stage clash.

So the matches that involving Zhao Yunlei will be ignored. Lee/Chau and Adcock/Adcock secure semifinal spot, also Maheswari/Polii & Pedersen/Juhl as well.

is that how the rules work? If Zhao has played on and retire 5 points into the game, would it count as a Win for Ahmaed/Nasir?

All their effort in the two, rather four, matches played down the drain for ZYL/TQ and ZYL/ZN. It seems to me that ZYL initially wanted to try and qualify from the group stage and still earn the ranking points if they are knocked out in the elimination stage. Probably, it's getting unbearable for ZYL and not worth taking the risk aggravating it. As they say, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Jordan/Susanto defeated Fischer/Pedersen in last match of group stage, 21-8 / 21-18. Winless result for Danish veteran as they also lost at two previous ties against Ko/Kim and Liu/Bao.
