The Olympic Champion bids Au Revoir to French meet

All three defending champions march on to next round except big upset created in first day tournament when Ahmad/Natsir got early exit by Sonoda/Fukuman. Another top name bit the dust yesterday, Lin Dan had premature departure, lost to Indian #3 H.S. Prannoy in three games.

Several top contenders had tough times to clear first hurdle, Danish twin stars Jorgensen and Axelsen battled hard before eliminated HKG players, Hu Yun and Wei Nan respectively. Last year winner Chou TC was stretched into extra point at first set against Rumbaka. Mixed fortune for Indian MS here as their number one Srikanth lost once again to his boogeyman, Tian HW but Kashyap, Jayaram and Prannoy prevailed. The latter stole the show to stun two-time Olympic Champion Lin Dan in rubber-games. Another favourites Momota, Lee CW progressed comfortably to last sixteen. Today's much anticipated MS encounter is none but the highly improved Axelsen v two-time Olympic silver medalist Lee CW. Japan has assured 1 quarterfinal berth, Momota v Sasaki while the qualifier Nishimoto will challenge second seed Jorgensen. China hope in this discipline will rely on their two inconsistent MS, Wang ZM and Tian HW as the their ace Chen Long pulled out of this tournament. Wang sets a meeting to Korean Lee DK and Tian will up against another Indian player, Jayaram.

No setbacks so far for all seeded WS except Sung JH who retired in early first game against Tee JY. Top-seeded Nehwal should take revenge over her Denmark losing against Mitani today, two Chinese players Wang SX and Wang YH will take on Japanese WS, Imabeppu and Okuhara respectively while the resurgent Li XR gets Korean test Bae YJ. The reigning World Champion, Marin is favoured to overcome Scottish talent Gilmour also TPE star Tai TY and former world champion Intanon should have no serious threat to pass this stage. One last sixteen tie will pit two South East Asian players, Indonesian Maria Febe and Malaysian Tee JY.

Chinese suffered big losing in MD category where their five pairs fizzled out at same round, only Fu HF/Zhang N survived. Three interesting clashes in this stage will pit Endo/Hayakawa v former world #1 Koo KK/Tan BH, Goh VS v Kim GJ/Kim SR, Boe/Mogensen v Pratama/Suwardi. Top two seeds, Lee YD/Yoo YS and Ahsan/Setiawan will be challenged by Japanese combinations and should advance to last eight.

Korean has guaranteed one quarterfinal spot through Chae YJ/Kim SY v Go AR/Yoo HW and has good prospect to seal one more slot, Eom HY/Kim HN v Chayanit/Muenwong. Rematch of Denmark meet, INA top-ranked WD Maheswari/Polii will face Chang YN/Lee SH once again. Danish #1 Pedersen/Juhl also get Korean rival, Jung KE/Shin SC. First seed Matsutomo/Takahashi has tough test, China newest partnership, Huang YQ/Tang JH. Another two Chinese pairs, Bao YX/Zhong QX & Luo twin sisters are predicted to surpass their European opponents.

Four unseeded pairs have equal chance to enter last eight, Liu YC/Tang JH v Lee YD/Lee SH and Sudket/Saralee v the giant-killer Sonoda/Fukuman. 8th seed Lu K/Huang YQ will face tricky test, AUS SS winner Reginald Lee CH/Chau HW while their compatriots Xu C/Ma J and Liu C/Bao YX have advantage to cruise into next stage. European finest, Fischer/Pedersen also is favoured to tame Jordan/Susanto who has better head to head statistics than Indonesian #2.

WHY - Okuhara might be a good match. I predict WHY to prevail.
The Danes against Debby and Jordan might be good. I predict a victory for the Danes.
Very tricky match for Gutta/Ponnappa, against the recently performing quite well Dutch combo Musken - Piek. I predict the Indian pair will take it.
Matsutomo-Takahashi against Huang Yaqing - Tang Jinhua will be a tough one, probably a three setter, ending with a victory for the Japanese.
Enzo - Hayakawa against Tan - Ku will show the true colors of the Malaysian veterans. I predict a victory for the Japanese.
I am very curious about the Hayakawa - Matsutomo combinaison. They face Liu - Bao, so we'll know if they have potential. I predict a victory for the Chinese.

I agree!! It can be avoided only if LCW has some vehement tactics to cool down VA's fire

SN is such a learner she has to learn everything step by step 2 recent encounters may be enough for many but not for our megastar!! She might loose again provided her mantle blockage is cleared by her coaches.. But I can't we see her being def :(

Saina vs Mitani (That too, over confident Mitani) - Prediction is difficult.

Prannoy vs ng ka long (Prannoy need to be careful against this young hongkong player who did well to oust boonsak Ponsana)

Ajay vs Tian Houwei (Very difficult to predict )

Kashyap vs Rajiv Ouseph (Rajiv is a very very good front court player. He would be beaten only if he is challenged at the net)

Jwala/Aswini vs Dutch pair (Jwala/aswini has beaten them last time when they met. Expecting the same)

With Lin Dan out of the way, the psychological pressure should be much reduced for LCW. I hope he doesn't miss the golden opportunity to land his first SS title of the year.

True, VA is a hurdle but not insurmountable. I feel a highly motivated LCW will prevail, not only this tricky match but all the way to the final.
