Chen Long has no ranking points to defend here anyway. Good that he is giving others a chance to fight for the SS title, he's virtually invincible at the moment.

Thus his heavy strapping on the shoulder indicates he has at least some problems or a slight injury and wants to prevend it from becoming worse.
He does not need to care about these points as he is clearly the best MS player and has already earned enough points for all important rankings.

I still like to have all the best players in the tournaments for the best competition even though the draw is more open now ;)

What is the upset? They are supposed to win against unknowns in France.

Exactly! Perhaps he is misusing the word "upset"?

For me upset happens when a player win against their opponent with a huge marginal score. No offence here but just my own personal opinion. :D

I have never heard any of the French players ever! And I generally follow the Badminton Circuit.

So it is no surprise to me that 3 regular players on the circuit win that way.

Also, it must be mentioned that Yoo Yeon Soong is a world class player, who is playing in the qualifiers only because of the Korean experimentation with pairings.

Yes Yoo Yeon Seong is indeed a world class player. He played his role in XD and MD Very well. He is the type of person who can adapt very well although he changes his partner frequently. He can always compliment his partner very well regardless of who he is partnered with. Yes you are right too Korea is now experimenting with different new partnership to form new pairs.

I am surprise to see Natsir and ahmad lost too. I think they are tired after denmark tournament.

Good time for Chen long to rest. Now is best chance for Lee Chong wei to win..

Thanks for pointing this out. Now going off to check the scores. Since the time in France is different from my timing I didn't get to watch the matches live and just checked the bwf website to know the scores. Wow this must have been a big upset for the world ranked no 2 XD to lose in the first round of the tournament.

Chen Long withdrawing is for the best although I wanted to watch him two weeks in a row.

But winning 2 weeks in a row is difficult and could aggravate his shoulder.

Hopefully Lin Dan or Tian Houwei step up to the plate.

Since the timing in France is so much of difference from my timing here guess I won't have the opportunity to watch any of the matches live too today. Plus still need to work and cannot stay up till late watch any of the matches life. Wish the tournament is held at Asia countries which is suitable for my timing. Its okay. From time to time I will check the scores. :(

Yup, promising youngster, he's runner up of last week TPE GP lost to Sony Dwi Kuncoro.

Back to back losing at first round of qualification to unheralded MS player, just wondering whether he could come back to elite level.

Indeed, nothing important for the world #1 to take part in this SS after he defended DEN Premier title, three weeks preparation for CHN Premier next month.

Day-1 big surprise that defending champion was sent packing really early. Their fitness wasn't fully recovered to overcome the resilient Japanese combo.

Yoo Yeon Seong / Chang Ye Na winning unknown german pair has become a shock of your life ? .

In the next round, another German pair defeated Yoo Yeon Seong / Chang Ye Na in straight sets. Though their is a difference in ranking , considering the popularity of korean pair, we must say this is called upset.

Even without CL, I don't think lcw can win at his current form, VA is in good form, CTC has played well, Tommy is on FIRE.

Think best bets for MS in France is VA or CTC. Tommy was a journeyman in Denmark (as we saw in the final), will not get the same luxury here. If Lin Dan gets his act together he might have a shot like in Japan.
