Intanon, Axelsen toppled early, Lin v Son part 2

Two MS rematches of Japan Open episode will set on day 3 tournament, badminton maestro Lin Dan will find stern test, home hopeful Son Wan Ho while Japan Thomas Cup hero Kento Momota gets Tommy Sugiarto once again in his second round clash. The Korean #1 Son looks on fire to take revenge over Chinese superstar as he displayed at R/32 to outmaneuvered Ouseph convincingly. China has secured 1 quarterfinal spot through two times World Champion Chen Long v Wang Zhengming, second time in a row top-seeded Chen must face his compatriot at R/16 after he lost to Tian HW last week in Japan. At lower half of draw, we'll see interesting line-up after two seeded players crashed out, Kidambi Srikanth and most surprising is Japan Open runner-up Viktor Axelsen, both of them succumbed to Tian HW and Jayaram respectively. Two INA teenagers showed positive result, Mustofa and Christie who dumped Zwiebler and local MS Lee DK in rubber games. Chou Tien Chen ,played gruelling matches before overcome Prannoy in R/32 will face Thai veteran Ponsana. The remaining three ties that will offer unpredictable outcome, Tian HW v Mustofa, Vincent Wong WK v Jayaram and Sasaki v Christie.

Chinese Taipei, host Korea and China have guaranteed 1 representative each in WS quarterfinal. Tai Tzu Ying, Sung Ji Hyun, Li Xuerui should advance against their lower-ranked compatriot. Two notable clashes at second run will pit P.V. Sindhu v Takahashi and local hope Bae Yeon Ju v newly-crowned Japan Open winner Okuhara. The Chinese duo, Wang YH & Wang SX will take on the young talents, Busanan and Ohori respectively. Ratchanok Intanon got premature exit in back to back SS, this time to Sindhu. Michelle Li is the only non Asian WS who survived in second round and tough opponent will waiting her, none but Japan wonder girl, Akane Yamaguchi.

MD top four seeds cleared their first hurdle comfortably and vying for quarterfinal berths. The close contested second round tie could be projected between Endo/Hayakawa v Conrad Kolding, Chai B/Hong W v former world number one Koo KK/Tan BH, Lee SM/Tsai CH v former world champion Ko SH/Shin BC and Pratama/Suwardi who outclassed recent WC silver medalist Liu/Q earlier v home duo Kim GJ/Kim SR. The reigning world champion Ahsan/Setiawan has tricky opponent, Malaysian Goh VS/Tan WK.

So far so good for Chinese WD, only one pair tumbled Bao YX/Zhong QX who lost to last week JPN Open semifinalist Chae YJ/Kim SY. One of the frontrunners at top half draw, Pedersen/Juhl is expected to progress. Two ties involving two pairs from same nation, Ma J/Tang YT v Tang JH/Tian Q and Chae YJ/Kim SY v Chang YN/Lee SH. Local pair Jung KE/Shin SC enjoys free last eight ticket due to top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi withdrawal. At bottom half, Wang XL/Yu Y, Luo Y/Luo Y and Maheswari/Polii are favoured to prevail tomorrow against their respective opponents.

The top eight seeds continue thei journey here and have bright prospect too to check in to quarters, the most intriguing encounter in this discipline could be Widianto/Dili who will oppose home Shin BC/Chae YJ. One last eight berth has been guaranteed by INA, Ahmad/Natsir v Jordan/Susanto.

After Japan and a long sporting week, I missed the entire first two days of Korea. Hope we are doing better at Seoul.
