World Champion Marin, Ahsan/Setiawan freezed in Tokyo

The underdogs and darkhorses continue to spring upset as this 7th Superseries is closer to reach culminating day. Badminton powerhouse China has 5 representatives in all 5 categories at last four followed by host Japan & Korea with 4 semifinal slots each.

The Chinese ace Lin Dan has revenge mission to Tommy Sugiarto who defeated this multi champion player twice in this year, IND SS and INA Premier. Both of them eliminated younger compatriot at previous round. Lower half semifinal isn't far from scenario, the tall Dane Viktor Axelsen that has transformed to be fast improved player recently will meet Chinese Taipei star Chou Tien Chen, the world #7 Chou had flop performance at first semester in 2015, losing regularly at preliminary round of high level tournaments.

Japan prodigies, Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara succeed to fullfill home fans expectation and still one more round to create all Japan final on Sunday. Yamaguchi knocked out the Olympic Champion Li XR once again after INA Premier last June, she will set up a meeting with another Chinese player Wang Shixian who gave outstanding determination to stop the toughest rival, Marin in three games. The other WS semifinal will pit two highly talented youngsters, Tai Tzu Ying v Okuhara, most likely this tie will be tight encounter.

Two more steps for local hero Endo/Hayakawa to realize a Superseries title, waiting them at last four none but the dangerous Chinese combo Fu HF/Zhang N who dispatched the world champion Ahsan/Setiawan in pretty comfortable way. Hot favourite Lee YD/Yoo YS looks unstoppable so far, the Korean heartthrob will be tested by SIN SS winner Pratama/Suwardi, they should be wary to the underdog Indonesian pair who beat them in Singapore last April.

Home hopeful, Matsuo/Naito experienced scary escape against Korean pair Chang YN/Lee SH in thrilling quarterfinal match, next the Japanese has harder job to overcome more established Danish duo Pedersen/Juhl for final spot. China and Korea new experimenting pairs will meet each other, Zhao YL/Zhong QX v Chae YJ/Kim SY. Zhao YL is formidable double specialist and she's favoured to go further with her new partner.

KOR has two pairs in XD semifinal, very rare outcome at top tier tournament. Ko SH/Kim Ha Na and Kim GJ/Shin SC have played their best badminton to dump their fancied rival, Ahmad/Natsir and Xu C/Ma J respectively. Both Zhang N/Zhao YL, Fischer/Pedersen lost to Ko SH/Kim HN and Kim GJ/Shin SC respectively in their last meeting at TPE GP Gold. The Chinese and Danish pairs are still the favourite to meet in finale but nothing impossible for the Koreans to defy the script.

LIVE TV (court 1, 12.00pm local time) matches :

    1) Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen (DEN) v Kim Gi Jung/Shin Seung Chan (KOR)
    2) Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan (CHN) v Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa (JPN)
    3) Wang Shixian (CHN) v Akane Yamaguchi (JPN)
    4) Tai Tzu Ying (TPE) v Nozomi Okuhara (JPN)
    5) Lin Dan (CHN) v Tommy Sugiarto (INA)

Too bad Chou vs Axelsen not on court 1! I think it will be a good match. Let's hope LD and Tommy will go out with the eyes of the tiger

I watched some LD match replays and he really plays like a grandmaster now, much unlike his Total BWF WC total failure.

Do you mean CTC is a descendant of Taiwanese aborigines?

"Taiwanese original inhabitants" is the term commonly applied to the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, who constitute about two percent of the island's population, or more than 500,000 people. Recent research suggests their ancestors may have been living on Taiwan for approximately 8,000 years before a major Han immigration began in the 17th century. Taiwanese aborigines are Austronesian peoples, with linguistic and genetic ties to other Austronesian ethnic groups, which includes those of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Madagascar and Oceania. [Wiki]

To my eyes, he just looks like the typical Chinese ;)

From WSX's last two defeats to Marin, the way she played, I more or less thought she has the know-how to beat Marin sometime but when it actually happened today, I was still quite taken aback. I believe Chen Jin has already figured out how to deal with Marin, just that his charges haven't acquired the knack of doing so except WSX this time round. So gratifying to see, for me.

It only goes to prove in WS there is no dominant player, basically it's an open field where the top 15-20 players can beat each other on a good day. For the time being, Marin is at most the first among equals.

So far in this tournament, both Akane and Nozomi are doing very well on home soil, let's see how their respective opponents, namely WSX and TTY, fare against them tomorrow. I sensed that Akane has raised her game another level, not sure if it's temporary or permanent; if the latter, Akane may well regain the JPN SS title she won two years ago, come Sunday. We'll see.

I just watched the replay of WSX vs CM through a 720p video yet with inferior quality for it's rather blurred giving some dizzy effects, recorded from an inferor streaming.

The G1 was fully owned by CM, 21-13 for her.

In the G2 WSX was trailing all along the game, the widest margin was at 10-14, then leveled at 14-14, then again leveled at 16-16, from here WSX led for the very first time up to 18-16, leveled again at 18-18, managed to lead again at 19-18, 20-18, 20-19 then sealed off the G2 at 21-19.
Chen Jin just joined Xia Xuanze into the coach seat at G2, 12-14 (he must have attended the match of LXR vs AY earlier). At the end of G2, it's Xia Xuanze who gave the coaching. Chen Jin said nothing.

In the G3 WSX led all the way up to the interval 11-9. Xia Xuanze still gave his coaching, Chen Jin added some. After the break WSX continued to lead all the way up to the widest margin at 19-13, CM managed to add 2 more points, then WSX closed the match at 21-15, she practically owned the decider.

In the entire match, I could see that CM showed no fatigue, she was able to run all the four corners to cover the shuttlecock matching the exploits of WSX. She just barely got any chance to smash, WSX simply gave her the minimum opportunity to do any smash with her shots. WSX just played better in this match. It's her day! No excuse.
